WILD-SM
Community Engaging in Wildlife Sustainable Management in RO-HU Crossborder Area
Access the official site: interreg-rohu.eu
The project takes place in the border region between Romania and Hungary—a zone rich in biodiversity, but facing challenges like habitat fragmentation, disease transmission between wildlife and livestock, and inconsistent cross-border policies. Through its key activities, WILD-SM aims to build a collaborative framework where researchers, policy-makers, and communities work together to create sustainable wildlife management solutions.
The project focuses on biological assessment - understanding species presence, population numbers, movement patterns, and threats— including genetic diversity and health status analysis. These insights enable evidence-based management decisions.
Equally important are the human dimensions - raising awareness, promoting responsible land use, and reducing human-wildlife conflicts through educational programs, community events, and stakeholder training.
