Updates Grades K-2

Update January 29th: Hello Vida Parents! Looking back on the first half of the year I'm always amazed to see how much material we have covered!

With Kindergarten we are becoming proficient at reading basic rhythms like Quarter Note and Eighth Note. We have just been introduced to the Minor 3rd interval So-Mi, which is used in all of the songs we have learned so far this year. We will begin to combine our rhythmic and melodic knowledge to be able to read basic notation.

With 1st and 2nd grade we have learned the 16th Note rhythm using the rhythm syllable Ta-ka-di-mi and we have also learned about the Half Note using the rhythm syllable ta-ah. We are working to become more fluent with melodic notes So, Mi, and La.

Update September 5th: Hello Vida Parents! Getting back into the swing of things has been a fun challenge. I'm very excited to build off of what we learned last year in our music classes, and to start fresh with the incoming Kindergarteners.

With Kindergarten we will begin the year by building a large repertoire of songs that will help us learn the very basic elements of music. To start the year we will be using this repertoire to learn about the Beat, High and Low sounds, and Fast and Slow Tempo. We will combine singing and movement activities to help us internalize the musical concepts, then later we will talk about the technical words and how these are used in music across various genres.

With First and Second grade I'm very excited to dig deeper into more complicated musical concepts. Last year we left off with the rhythmic concepts Quarter Note and Eighth Note, and the melodic concepts Sol, Mi, and La. We will continue to polish these ideas and start to learn repertoire that will help us learn about Half Note and the melodic note Do.
