My Role

What does a School Counselor do?

A school counselor provides social, emotional, and academic support to ALL students. This might look like teaching counseling-based lessons to an entire classroom, holding short-term skill building groups, or providing ongoing counseling to students throughout the school year. Counselors can also provide emotional support to students who are struggling in the moment.

In addition to working with all students, school counselors also consult and collaborate with parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, support staff, related service providers, and outside agencies in order to ensure the success of students.
