Press Release: Victorian Climbing Club Launches New Guidebook for The You Yangs
MELBOURNE, Victoria – September 7, 2025 – The Victorian Climbing Club (VCC) announces the launch of a new climbing guidebook, ‘The You Yangs, including Staughton Vale’. This is the first comprehensive guide published for the area in many years and a significant milestone in the VCC’s initiative to update and publish guides to regional crags across Victoria.
The You Yangs, a popular climbing destination located between Melbourne and Geelong, is known for its accessibility and distinctive small granite tors. The new guidebook, which replaces a previous series published between 2003 and 2005, is an essential resource for climbers exploring the area's more than 700 recorded climbing routes.
The guide is designed to make finding crags easier, with features such as GPS coordinates and QR codes for parking locations and specific crags.
“The You Yangs guidebook is the first of six new guides we plan to publish for regional Victoria,” said Steve Toal, President of the Victorian Climbing Club. “This is a major step forward in providing the climbing community with accurate, up-to-date information on some of our state’s most important climbing areas.”
The new guidebook is now available for purchase through existing retailers that serve the climbing community. VCC members can purchase the book directly from the club.
