- WW1 and WW2 left Europe fractured and weak, allowing many counrties to escape their oppressive rule.
- different places had different ways of gaining independence, most peacefully, but some were with force.
- Vietnam gained independence through force, but almost every other place gained it peacefully.
- South Africa had to gain independence from their corrupt rulers instead of a European country.
- 25% of the country was white landowners, but they made up for all of the government and abused the native people of South Africa.
