About Me

Middle School Me

I have never heard any adult say, "If I could go back to any time in my life, I would choose middle school." My mother affectionately referred to my years at Disque Middle School in Gadsden, Alabama as my "awkward" phase. Middle school is that precious time between childhood and adulthood when young people awkwardly stretch their skin and wings and attempt to fly. Thus, I want my classroom to be a safe place to fly and to fall.

Mommy Me

I have been married to John Wiggins for twenty-five years. We have three beautiful, well-behaved children who are in 12th*, 11th, and 8th grades.

Teacher Me

I attended Auburn University where I earned a BS in Secondary English/ History Education. Following graduation I taught 9th and 11th grade English in Gwinnett County, Georgia. While working toward my Master's degree in English at Georgia State University I was employed in the on-campus writing center and as an instructor for Freshman Composition. After my family and I relocated to Birmingham I served as an American Literature teacher at a local home-school cooperative and later at a local private school for students with learning differences. However, my greatest classroom has been my home. Two of my children struggle with school--one has autism and another dyslexia. Their struggles have informed the way I structure my lessons to ensure that my class is accessible to ALL learners. I love teaching and am honored that you have entrusted me with the English education of your child!
