The Verona High School & Montclair State University Dual Enrollment Program is an agreement between Verona High School and Montclair State University where our VHS students can attend college classes with actual college students while still enrolled in high school. VHS students can earn 12 college credits in their senior year at a reduced cost of $275 per credit. VHS students participating in this dual enrollment program will not incur additional MSU student fees, so the cost for VHS students is at a significant discount when compared to a full-time college student.
Dual Enrollment means that accepted VHS students would be enrolled as students at VHS and MSU. The courses completed at MSU would be transferable to most colleges and universities that students may attend after high school. The acceptance of transferable credits is the decision of each college or university. Students are encouraged to explore the transfer credit policies of colleges and universities for which they are applying. Students that maintain at least a 2.8 GPA during their Dual-Enrollment year will be offered admission to MSU the following year with the exception of some majors that have additional admission requirements.

Montclair State University allows students to take most 100 and 200 level courses that do not have a prerequisite. If a course has a prerequisite, the student may be able to submit a request to MSU to waive into the course. During the course enrollment period, MSU will release the course schedule so that students may select courses and register for classes. This usually, happens in the previous semester (during the Spring for Fall classes and during the Fall for Spring classes). Students are permitted to take courses at MSU and still participate in afterschool activities. Students enrolled are reminded that college courses are rigorous and take time outside of the school day. Students should account for this when selecting courses and after-school activities.
Most college courses are one semester, 3-credit courses (some science courses have additional credits). VHS will award 5 credits towards graduation for successful completion of a one-semester course at MSU. The courses and grades will not be reflected on the student's Verona High School transcript. The courses will not be factored into a student's VHS GPA.
This program is only available to VHS Grade 12 students. Parents or guardians of interested students must apply after their student's Junior (Grade 11) Scheduling Meeting with their school counselor. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of the first semester of their junior year in order to be eligible for MSU Dual Enrollment Program. Students who have under a 3.5 weighted GPA must have an interview with their school counselor prior to being accepted into the program. Enrolled students are considered college students by MSU and must have the same skills necessary for success in college as a full-time college student. Although MSU may monitor students' progress, students must remember that this is college and that the monitoring of their school performance and the sharing of their MSU performance with their parents/guardians is the responsibility of the student.
Students are responsible for their transportation to and from MSU and all of the associated parking costs.
