Grades 5-8 Running Club

(Fall 2020)

WELCOME!

Why:

Normally, at this time of the year, we have middle school cross-country for students in these grades. In the absence of our usual sports season, we want to offer an opportunity to help keep children active who love running.

Keeping children healthy is very important to us and a critical part of Christian classical learning.

How can we participate?

Three Steps:

  1. Complete the signup survey (click here)

  2. Download and complete the Veritas Athletics Emergency Form (click here)

  3. Please submit the Veritas Athletics Emergency Form no later than September 7 to be ready for the first practice.

Are practices required (like sports)?

No, this is a club. For the month, students may attend as little or as much as works for the family.

Will practice time be all running?

No; as we are coming back, this will be a hybrid (plenty of running) plus other ways to exercise safely. Our hope is that this also provides ways to exercise at home in the event that we are again required to stay home.

Will there be competition?

Maybe; we are looking for some cross-country competitions, and it actually looks like we might be able to have some, starting in October, but of course, there are no guarantees right now.

Is there a cost?

The one-time fee is $30 per student for September and October practices. Students may attend as many or as few practices as they like (like a fitness club) over those months.

With Covid, what steps will be implemented to keep students and coaches as safe as possible?

  • We will keep practices outside. Research data indicates that outside activity is still really good for children.

  • Students and/or coaches will refrain from practicing when sick.

  • We will follow check-in and check-out process that maintains social distance, and then training and running will also be kept at a social distance.

  • Hand sanitizer will be present and available.

  • There will be minimal to no sharing of equipment

  • There will be no sharing of water or food.

  • Masks may be worn by students whenever they feel the need to do so.
