about verde
I was born and raised in Hialeah, FL and I'm the oldest of seven.
I attended Florida State University and received my BA in History from Florida Atlantic University. After a few years of working as a paralegal, I decided to go back to school for my PhD in History.
I applied and was accepted to Florida International University and was awarded a teaching assistantship. Over the course of my first year, I realized that I enjoyed teaching and supporting students much more than doing research. I received my MA in U.S. History in 2014, and have been teaching ever since. I love it.
Until 2019, I taught social studies at the historic Booker T. Washington Senior High School, which serves students from the communities of Overtown and East Little Havana.
Four years ago, I joined the team at School for Advanced Studies - South. I'm looking forward to my fifth year!
My goal every year is to cultivate a class environment where students feel comfortable taking risks while working together and supporting one another. It is my pedagogical belief that deep learning follows from this foundation.
Things I love: my dogs, Alfie and Otto, travel, crafting, jokes, and food.
