The IDEA Project Management elective course provides an integrative praxis experience as the culmination of the IDEA Academy at DATA. Students design, create, display, and present a final synthesis project, incorporating the skills and content learned throughout the academy. IDEA projects are open-ended and round out the educational experience with a beginning focus on skills such as inquiry & research, media literacy, creating a plan, goal setting, project management, and organization. As students delve into the creation process of their project, they will communicate their progress and learning through writing and sketching, a slideshow presentation, photography, a design of a logo, collegial collaboration and discussion, interview practice, and public speaking. Finally, students will showcase their final project through designing an ePortfolio website, and present their project to an audience followed by self and peer evaluation and reflection.
As the IDEA Project is an independent student project, the form and focus will vary greatly, however, all students with complete the following:
1. Students will create a proposal of their project. Students will propose and ultimately execute a significant and impactful project requiring them to apply knowledge and showcase at least one of the skills learned in their IDEA pathway, while addressing real-world issues. The project will include the following stages: research, planning, execution, iteration, and presentation. It aims to showcase a student’s critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and innovation, and communication skills while fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter and its practical applications.
2. Students will journal weekly reflections by writing and sketching thoughts, ideas, plans, goals, and process of their IDEA Project. A final organized sequence of their progress will ultimately be showcased in a digital presentation.
3. Students will design and produce a rigorous project and an ePortfolio, which includes:
-works cited page of 10+ sources used in the creation of the project
-an annotated bibliography that includes 5+ sources
-a 500+ word essay which synthesizes their research findings & reflects on how the project demonstrates command of a skill(s) learned in their IDEA Pathway
-evidence of using their research to make a difference in their industry or community
-photography illustrating their projects' process/products
4. Students will prepare for and present their project to an audience consisting of peers, teachers, administrators, parents, and community participants.
