  • 5/8/19 ~ It's officially the almost-not-quite-just-short outcome that very nearly set up a shot at another championship. It was that close. Seeking a crack at a second consecutive section title, the Ventura High boys tennis team clawed, scratched and battled before dropping an excruciatingly tight decision to host Sage Hill in the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals on Wednesday. The loss came by total points, 80-63, after a 9-9 deadlock in sets. "We're all hurting today," said coach Tracie Currie, whose team finished 17-1. "We lost a heart-breaker. But I told the boys that we're going back to school today and we'll get ready to go back to work. We'll come back next year and be better."
  • 5/6/19 ~ The Ventura High boys tennis team took another step to another CIF-Southern Section title. The Cougars, who won the Division 3 title last season, defeated host Woodbridge 11-7 on Monday to advance to the Division 1 semifinals. Cody Ray Emery swept his singles sets, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2. Tyler Cohen and Hunter Leija each won two singles sets. Unbeaten Ventura (20-0) will play at Sage Hill in Newport Beach in a semifinal match on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The winner advances to Friday's final at Claremont Club.
  • 5/3/19 ~ Hunter Leija and Ty Cohen each swept their singles sets and Chase Currie and Max Cohen swept in doubles to lead Ventura to a 13-5 victory over Valencia-Placentia in a Division 1 second-round match. The unbeaten Cougars (18-0), who won the Division 3 title last season, play at Woodbridge in a quarterfinal match Monday.
  • 5/1/19 ~ Noah Laber and Ty Cohen each swept their singles sets, and Max Cohen and Cody Ray Emery swept in doubles to lead Ventura to a 13-5 win over visiting Westlake in a Division 1 first-round match. The unbeaten Cougars (16-0), who won the Division 3 title last season, host Valencia in a second-round match Friday at 3 p.m.
  • 4/29/19 ~ Unbeaten and Pacific View League champion Ventura (14-0), which won the CIF-SS Division 3 title last year, has been moved up two levels and will host Westlake (8-9), the second seed from the Marmonte League, in a Division 1 first-round match.

Ventura dominated the Pacific View League individual finals at home, winning the singles and doubles titles. Noah Laber defeated Rio Mesa's Andy Hess 6-1, 6-1 to capture the league's singles championship. In doubles, Chase Currie and Max Cohen defeated Ty Cohen and Cody Ray Emery 6-2, 6-4 in an all-Ventura final. Ventura's Tyler Biedebach and Aaron Palmisano took third place in doubles. Ventura's Drew Worthy took fourth in singles.
