Celebrating Native Peoples and Indigenous Heritage

Welcome to the Ventura County Indian Education Consortium's Web Page for Celebrating Native Peoples.

While celebrating the history of Native Peoples, we must not forget the injustices faced by Native Peoples throughout U.S. history.  Whereas we know the Library of Congress months and days can be tokenizing, we believe that when taught in conjunction with Ethnic and Social Justice Studies and culturally responsive pedagogy, events such as Native American Day (in September), Indigenous Peoples Day (in October) and Native American Heritage Month (in November) can be used to illuminate the unique histories of the people in our community who come from Indigenous backgrounds.  We hope this website  provides valuable resources for students, families and educators to learn more about and celebrate Indigenous Peoples.

The Ventura County Indian Education Consortium is a federally funded, Title VI program, providing school based lessons to eligible Native American students in Ventura County partner school districts, to increase students' knowledge of cultural identity and awareness, while increasing their academic achievement.  Enrolled students in grades TK-12 are Alaska Natives or Native Americans with proof of tribal membership and a completed 506 Form on file with our Program Office.  Enrollment forms are available on our full website at Ventura County Indian Education Consortium.
