Welcome to a world of reading! On this site, educators, students, and families can find a wealth of diverse literature. In her famous essay, Curriculum as Window and Mirror, Emily Styles reminds us that we need to find literature that offers both mirrors that reflect our experience and windows that allow us to look into the lives of other people who may be different from us. Diversifying our bookshelves and disrupting the hegemonic canon is part of our efforts to integrate Ethnic and Social Justice Studies across grade levels and subject areas. Seeing ourselves reflected in the curriculum and learning about diverse experiences helps us grow as humans and prepares us to be global citizens of the 21st century.
Please know this site is intended to be updated regularly. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or book recommendation, please email Dr. Soledad Molinar in the Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department at Soledad.Molinar@venturausd.org. Thank you!
Happy reading!
