Celebrating PRIDE
Celebrating PRIDE
Welcome to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month! On this site there is a variety of resources for students, families, and educators to celebrate PRIDE. In alignment with Ethnic and Social Justice Studies, resources are shared with families, students, and educators in order to honor groups who have been traditionally marginalized. In Ventura Unified, one goal is that no student should feel they have to leave any part of their identities at the classroom door, whether that be language, race/ethnicity, ability, religion, gender identity, and sexuality, among others. Whereas the Library of Congress Commemorative Observances months and days can be tokenizing, we believe that when taught in conjunction with ongoing and continuous integration of Ethnic and Social Justice Studies and culturally sustaining pedagogy, events such as PRIDE Month can be used to illuminate the unique histories of people from the LGBTQ+ communities and to the world. We hope this website provides valuable resources for students, families and educators to learn more about the unique histories of people who are LGBTQ+ and celebrate and support people from the LGBTQ+ community - during PRIDE and all year round!
Please know we are working to create sites for all of the Commemorative Observances. Stay tuned!
The goal of this website is to collect and share resources for families, students, and educators in response to our continued efforts to nurture diversity, equity and inclusion in our district and community. We hope these resources will be helpful in guiding important and difficult conversations about sexism, racism and social inequities, as well as nurturing culturally sustaining practices and celebrating people who are LGBTQ+. This site is a living document, and we will strive to continuously update it. If you have a concern, a suggestion, or a resource you'd like to share, please email GreatIdeas@venturausd.org or go to the Contact page. Thank you for your support, and we are honored to be learning alongside you as we engage in this crucial work.
