Arab American Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the contributions that Arab Americans have made to American society and culture. While celebrating the history of Arab Americans, we also acknowledge the injustice faced by Arab Americans throughout U.S. History.

In the Ventura Unified School District we are committed to being inclusive of the unique qualities, abilities and diverse backgrounds of ALL students and honoring, valuing and celebrating diversity and treating ALL people with dignity and respect. In VUSD, we proudly strive to focus on incorporating culturally relevant strategies and pedagogy in all we do.

Whereas we know the Library of Congress months can be tokenizing, we believe that when taught in conjunction with Ethnic and Social Justice Studies and culturally responsive pedagogy, Arab American Heritage Month can be used to illuminate the unique histories of the people in our community who come from Arab American backgrounds. We are proud to celebrate Arab American history and heritage!

Another goal of this website is to collect and share resources for families, students, and educators in response to our continued efforts to nurture diversity, equity and inclusion in our district and community. We hope these resources will be helpful in guiding important and difficult conversations about racism and social inequities, as well as nurturing culturally responsive practices and celebrating joy. This site is a living document, and we will strive to continuously update it. El Mes Nacional de la Herencia Árabe-estadounidense celebra y reconoce las contribuciones que los Árabes-estadounidenses han contribuido a la sociedad y la cultura estadounidense.
