Middle school is an exciting yet challenging time for students, their parents, and teachers. During this passage from childhood to adolescence, middle school students experience a need to explore a variety of interests, connecting their learning in the classroom to a practical application in life. Middle school students encounter various issues as they struggle with raging hormones, rapid growth, frequent fatigue, and self-consciousness. In their search for their identity, middle school students begin to turn more frequently to peers rather than parents for advice and affirmations and rely heavily on friends to provide comfort, understanding, and approval.
In addressing the unique needs of middle school students, we provide guidance and counseling services to help students navigate the challenges of adolescence. Our services include academic planning, helping students choose appropriate courses, and developing educational goals. We also offer support with personal and social issues addressing peer relationships, bullying, and emotional well-being. We aim to collaborate with teachers and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Our goal as Anacapa counselors is to foster human beings who are kind, compassionate, and prepared for their future in high school and beyond.
Our counselors remain with their cohort of students throughout their three years at Anacapa, which assists us in developing a trusting relationship with them where they feel comfortable seeking us out as needed.
In addition to providing student support, our counselors are here to help parents navigate this exciting, yet often challenging time in your child’s life. Please feel free to reach out to us as needed.
