In this section I will post about the projects I do with my students to promote technology & soft skills
“We cannot solve our problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
by Albert Einstein
I'm English teacher and I used to go to my class and speak and speak about my subject to my students....soon I realised most of them didn´t feel interested in my classes,it didn´t work, so I decided to change the way I taught. The problem was I had to find how motivate my students. I came up with an idea for change with my pupils' suggestions, my collegues and my PLN.
Firstly ,I started to look for new ideas about teaching, most of them related to active methodologies and technology (Google for Education tools). In my classrooms I began to guide my students to create their own material ( docs, mindmaps, videos, podcasts.etc... I used my neighbourhood and town resources ( museums, markets, parks, monuments, art galleries ,...) to inspire my students, to make them be in touch with the reality near them and improve their communicative skills. All the time, I observed what they were doing in class, took notes of their questions in order to redesigned my teaching.
As part of the Management and Innovation Team, I played a tech movement in our school, so all our collegues have implemented Google Apps, Chromebooks and encouraged improvement of technology infrastructure in it. Our pupils from 6 years-old to 16 years-old worked in classroom and with Google for Education tools.I'm very passionated about learning and teaching, so I helped some of my collegues about Google apps.My students response was amazing.Empowering all learners,my class has changed 100% and my school too.
From my point of view, the challenge is to use technology more effectively and soft skills in a way our students will develop their tomorrow's jobs. Most of these jobs haven't already been created, for that reason, to teach and learn these skills ts very important nowadays to succeed in life :
-Computing skills (which include problem solving, problem probing, logical thinking, and computational thinking skills)
-The ability to apply what it 's been learned in school to real-world situations
-Problem solving skills
-Creativity , ability to view issues or problems from different perspectives.
-Collaboration to work with others
-Communication to be able to convey ideas,
-Curation to collect information about a topic.
Students don´t feel excited about what schools offer them. There is no connection between real life and school.
Research conducted by Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation and Stanford Research Center has all concluded that 85% of job success comes from having well‐developed soft and people skills, and only 15% of job success comes from technical skills and knowledge (hard skills).
So let's pay attention to that point that is really worthwhile to change and create impactful effect in the world we live in to inspire our students to DREAM BIG.
