"Going for Gold: Achieving Olympic Excellence in Academic Advising"

In celebration of the 2024 Summer Olympics, VCU's University Academic Advising Board invites you to go for the gold and challenge yourself to go beyond the basics of academic advising.

 Achieve "Olympic" levels of excellence in your advising practice that will impact student success at every level.

Conference Information

DATE & LOCATION:

The conference will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Virginia Commonwealth University in the STEM Building, which is located at 817 W Franklin St in downtown Richmond, Virginia.

SCHEDULE:

The conference runs from 9:00am - 4:30pm. Check-in and a light breakfast will begin at 8:30am. You can find up to date information in the schedule section of the website.

MEALS PROVIDED:

A light breakfast, lunch, and coffee break are included with registration.

PARKING:

VCU personnel are encouraged to use their regularly assigned or reciprocal parking area. Visitors to VCU are encouraged to use the West Broad Street Parking Deck located at 1111 W. Broad Street. Parking is $16 per day. More information about parking options can be found here.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Melinda Anderson

VCU & the University Academic Advising Board is excited to welcome Dr. Melinda Anderson as this year's conference keynote speaker! 

Dr. Anderson has worked in higher education for over 20 years including various roles on campuses in academic and student affairs. Her passion and commitment to student success have propelled her to operate in many different capacities with a focus on student transitions, persistence, and retention. Before her current appointment as Executive Director for Network Engagement at Achieving the Dream, she was the Executive Director of NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising. She continues to focus on helping institutions create innovative practices to design the best environments for student success.


Dr. Anderson graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a master's in adult education. She earned her doctorate in Higher Education Administration, from the College of William and Mary. She currently resides in Chesapeake, VA with her husband and two beautiful children.
