A bit about me!
My name is Jennie Manning and this is my eighth year at Valentine High School. I taught business classes and am now entering my second year as the school counselor at VHS. My family and I are not from Valentine, we spent most of our lives in Scottsbluff. My oldest son, Benjamin, is in the US Navy and my youngest son, Maxwell, is in kindergarten. Brian, my husband, works for UPS. We also have a dog named Grace; she is a Bull Mastiff.
I graduated high school from Scottsbluff and then went on to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a semester, but then found myself back in Scottsbluff attending Western Nebraska Community College as I didn’t feel like college was the right thing for me at that time in my life and I enlisted in the US Navy. I served four years on active duty and was stationed aboard the USS Shoup out of Everett, Washington. I fulfilled my active duty enlistment in 2004 and moved back to Scottsbluff. I then felt a strong urge to return to school. I received my associates degree from Western Nebraska Community College, then went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in business management from Chadron State College. After I was out of school for a bit, I decided to return to school to get my bachelor’s in secondary education. I then went on to earn my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Chadron State College and then back again for a master’s in school counseling. I also earned my Master of Business Administration degree.
I was a school counselor for a PK-12 school at Banner County School before moving to Valentine. The year before that, I was an elementary school counselor in Alliance. I was the truancy reduction program coordinator at Scottsbluff High School prior to Alliance and ran the credit recovery program. I taught business before that and for about three years prior to that I ran the credit recovery program and in-school suspension, all at Scottsbluff High School.
