Class overview
Welcome to a fabulous year in agriculture students and parents! This year will be about exploring different sectors of agriculture in our community, our state, and our world! I plan to incorporate lots of hands-on activities inside and outside the classroom, including working on our active 6-Acre school farm, our “outdoor classroom”. I will also be introducing us to the world of the Future Farmers of America (FFA)! FFA is a national organization that strives to encourage students to experience the world of agriculture through leadership opportunities and hands-on application of knowledge learned in agriculture classes. I want to strive to create a unified program where students feel comfortable in exploring new projects, innovative ideas, and ways to help support our campus and community. I am a firm believer in "Learn by doing", so let's grow together this year!
About Me:
My name is Hailey Bjerknes, and this is my first year teaching at Valley Center Middle School! I was born and raised right here in Valley Center and attended school in the Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District—starting at Lilac Elementary, moving on to VCMS, and graduating from Valley Center High School in 2019.
After high school, I attended Palomar College, where I earned two Associate’s Degrees: one in Math and Science and another in Behavioral Studies. I then transferred to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Science with an emphasis in Animal Science. I am currently in my final semester of the Single Subject Teaching Credential program at Cal Poly Pomona, where I will receive both my Single Subject Credential in Agriculture Science and my Agriculture Specialist Credential.
For the past two years, I worked for Bonsall Unified School District as the Agriculture and Animal Science Program Coordinator, where I provided outdoor garden based education for students in grades TK–6.
I feel very blessed and beyond excited to be back in my hometown, teaching the next generation about agriculture and sharing its importance not only in our community, but in the wider world. I’m looking forward to an incredible school year—go Thunderhawks!
