The Virtual Learning Center is a Virginia Beach City Public Schools department that supports Virginia Beach's virtual students. The VLC is made up of a Director(Bruce Enzmann), an ITS(Philip Bondi), office associates, school counselors, mentors, special education teachers, an ESL teacher, and a PALS teacher. Our offices are at Renaissance Academy.
Virtual Virginia is a program of the Virginia Department of Education that provides flexible digital education opportunities to students and educators throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virtual Virginia is a partner to all Virginia public school divisions. VBCPS contracts with VVA to provide virtual instruction for our students.
Most students are eligible to participate. Students must be currently enrolled in a VBCPS school and have access to a strong internet connection. VVA may not be appropriate for students with significant disabilities; virtual placement options and decisions should be discussed with a coordinator from OPEC. VVA may not be the appropriate placement for students who need Gifted services or are in any VBCPS academy programs.

Yes! Students are welcome to participate in all events provided at their home schools. This includes book fairs, field days, athletics, and clubs.
If a student is unable to attend a synchronous session, it is the student/parent’s responsibility to contact the teacher to let them know they will be absent. The student is responsible for watching the session recording in the Course Video Library and completing any assignments/assessments for that day.
VVA will record any absences or tardiness to live sessions; two missed sessions per day is equal to a full-day absence. Students who do not keep their cameras on and are not fully engaged in class will be counted absent. The parent/guardian should communicate with the VVA teacher and the local school regarding reasons for absences, but the VVA teacher does not determine “excused or unexcused” - the student is just marked absent.
Yes, school-based mentors will contact all VVA students from their building to inform them about the SOL testing schedule. VVA students must bring their Chromebook to the school to take the tests in person. Students are required to take SOLs unless they officially opt out.
Visit the Virtual Learner Assistance page and submit your concern. You can also join the VLC's live tech support session on Google Meet. Just use the code vlchelp. Tech support is available daily from 9:30-11:00am.
