Do we have to have 16 students on the team in order to compete?
No, 16 is the maximum. A team can compete with as few as 3 students.
If a student is currently in Calculus or has already passed Calculus can they be on the team?
Absolutely YES! The only requirement is that the student be enrolled at the school for which they are participating. The only issue with Calculus is that there will be no Calculus content in the competition.
If a school has more than 16 people interested in the competition, can the school send multiple teams?
Yes. One school can send multiple teams.
Can we submit a team of more than 4 if we designate any extra members as alternates?
Yes. The only limitation is no more than 4 students may be in a single session and no student can participate in both upper and lower level sessions.
Can a student who has taken precalc and beyond compete on the lower-level team? (The rules say they cannot compete in both, but can they "test down" a level?)
Yes. Any student may compete at either level, they simply can't compete in both levels.
What are the times for the competition?
The event will be held on Sat. Dec 14, 2024. It will start at 9:00 am sharp and should conclude by noon.
Will the students need money for anything?
Students will not need money, however there will also be a wrestling event being hosted at Tallwood that day and they are planning to have a booth set up to sell food/snack items. Math competitors are certainly welcome to buy snacks.
Do you have an itinerary for the day so we can include it in our packet?
A detailed schedule of events is posted on this site.
How many questions will there be in a session?
The number of questions in a session will not be revealed until a session begins, and they open their envelope. It will also vary from one session to the next. Of course all teams during a session will have identical questions.
In general, it can be said that a group of four students will find it difficult to complete all the questions in the time allotted. One of the tenets of this competition is teamwork and communication within the group. They must decide where and how to focus their efforts to maximize their output.
