Dual Enrollment Veterinary Science I & II at TCC
Rising 11th and 12th Grade students only
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is once again offering dual enrollment Veterinary Assisting to Virginia Beach students in the 2024-25 school year.Ā This program is open by application to 11th and 12th grade students who will be at least 16 years old by the start of the school year enrolled and have a current GPA of at least 3.0.Ā Qualified 12th grade students will be admitted first, but rising 11th graders may also apply.Ā Please share the information below with qualified students who may have an interest in the program.
This program is approved by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA). Upon completion of the program successful students may sit for the national examination and earn the designation of Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA). Ā Students who wish to pursue an associate degree and licensure as a Veterinary Technician may transfer credits earned from this program into TCCās program for Veterinary Technicians.

General Information:Ā Classes follow the TCC Calendar. Students in the program will travel to the Virginia Beach TCC campus for class with TCC faculty. Transportation will be available via Advanced Technology Center (ATC) busses from the home school and the daily schedule will align with the morning or afternoon ATC schedule.Ā Students enrolled in the program will earn 3 high school credits and 17 college credits.Ā Students will be required to complete a 40-hour internship at a clinic or shelter during the school year.Ā The student/parent is responsible for tuition costs associated with the course which is currently the VBCPS contracted rate of $45 per credit hour ($765 split over two semesters is scholarship funding is not granted).Ā VBCPS covers the cost of books, scrubs, equipment, materials, and industry credential exams.

Students apply byĀ completing the Student Interest Form/Application Part I at https://forms.gle/YnhkLjia68Cipz8bAĀ or scanning the QR Code in the attached promotional graphic.Ā Forms must be submitted by February 15, 2024.Ā Also please be sure to have the student fully answer the question about why the student wants to join the program and why they are a great candidate.Ā Student voice is important to the selection process.Ā In Part 2 of the application process Virginia Beach Schools will provide TCC with transcripts to complete submitted interest forms.Ā Students and counselors will be notified about admissions decisions by March 8, 2024.
Students can take challenging courses to prepare for college level rigor, to potentially earn college credit and to add weight to their GPAĀ
