About Love Run
The Love Run began in 2004, inspired by the resilience and gratitude of a Princess Anne High School SCA president. After being diagnosed with cancer and receiving exceptional care at CHKD (Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters), PA SCA wanted to give back to the compassionate staff who supported him through his journey. This desire led to the creation of the Love Run, a 5-kilometer race dedicated to raising funds for CHKD.
Since its inception, Princess Anne High School has proudly hosted the event each year, rallying the community to support the remarkable staff and patients at CHKD. In 2013, the Love Run was given deeper meaning as it was dedicated to Baby Jack Shumate, the son of Cox High School's SCA adviser. Jack’s life was tragically cut short, but CHKD stood by his family during their most challenging times, offering care and comfort.
Over the years, the Love Run has expanded to include Cox High School and Kellam High School, joining in memory of their own fallen Falcons and Knights. Together, these schools exemplify the power of unity and compassion, making a lasting impact on families in need.
Now in its second year, Love Row is back by popular demand! Participants can join our local Crew Teams and row the race, offering a dynamic and engaging way to be part of this cherished tradition. Whether running or rowing, every participant plays a vital role in supporting CHKD and the families they serve.
CHKD continues to be a lifeline for countless families, providing expert care and financial support when it’s needed most. Together, we can honor those we've lost, celebrate those we've saved, and bring hope to families everywhere.
