Proper letter and word spacing are important in both printing and cursive writing. Here are a few tips:
use graph paper and put one letter in each box within a word and a blank space between words,
use a pencil or small popsicle stick, or a small edible treat like small pieces of candy, raisins, or blueberries to maintain space between words,
say the word space at the end of each word,
use specific verbal instructions like "move your pencil over to leave a small blank space before starting your next word."
Ten basic rules for using capital letters:
The first word in a sentence
The pronoun "I"
Proper nouns (names of specific people, places, organizations, nationalities, languages)
Family relationships when used as proper nouns (uncle when used in name, "Uncle Greg")
Titles that appear before names (Governor Ralph Northam)
Directions that are part of a proper noun; North, South, East, West, Central when used as part of name and not a compass direction (The Pacific Northwest)
Days of the week, the months of the year, and holidays
Members of national, political, racial, social, civic, and athletic groups
Periods in history and events
Brand names and trademarks
