VBPS Policy and Regulation:
Policy 5-52: Cell Phone-Free Education-cellular phones and personal communication devices-student.
Regulation 5-52.1: Cellular Phones and Personal Electronic Communication Devices- Limitation on Use
The use of personal communication devices by students during instructional time is determined to be disruptive to the educational environment, not conducive to productive learning experiences and often the source of disciplinary intervention.
This policy is a proactive approach to actively engaging students in learning, preserving instructional time, and to reducing behaviors that interfere with the learning environment. If it is necessary to contact your child during the school day, call our main office. Should students need to contact a parent or guardian, they must use the main office phone. Please reference Policy 5-52 and Regulation 5-52.1for additional details.
VBCPS expectation is that students will not have access to cellphones during the school day.
Any student who uses a personal cell phone, communication device or accessories in violation of a local, state or federal crime will be referred to law enforcement and will be further disciplined for such action. Parents/legal guardians of minor students may be required to meet with the school administrators to address their student’s continued violation of this Regulation. This flyer educates students on the consequences for repeated violations.
We want to emphasize the critical importance of regular school attendance for your child's academic success and overall development. Consistent attendance ensures that your child receives the education and opportunities they deserve. If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, we request that you promptly communicate with the attendance office to report the absence. In line with attendance policies, if a student becomes chronically truant, it may lead to more serious consequences, including loss of academic credit due and/or potential legal actions. Our aim is to provide a safe and enriching environment for all students, and your active involvement in ensuring their regular attendance greatly contributes to achieving this goal. Please refer to the student code of conduct pages, 10-14 with specific attendance guidelines.
Please use the following email for any attendance notes, questions, or concerns: BaysideHSAttendance@vbschools.com. If you are in need of further assistance, please contact the Main Office at 757-648-5200.
Students should be in class and prepared to the learn when the bell rings. Students who enter class late disrupt learning for themselves and their classmates. This flyer educates students on the consequences for repeated tardies.
Parents and Guardians can view Attendance Notices on their ParentSquare app or website and may submit notes back to the school. Parents/Guardians will receive an “Attendance Notice” notification for a full day absence through the ParentSquare App, email, text message, or both. Please see these directions for installing the app and registering for ParentSquare. Follow these steps to submit a full-day attendance note to the Bayside HS Attendance Manager via ParentSquare.
It can be hard to know what to do if your student is ill. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if your student has the following symptoms, they should stay home, as their illness could affect their ability to participate in school and there is concern that they might spread infection to staff and other students:
Fever, including a fever with a new rash.
Vomiting more than twice in the preceding 24 hours.
Diarrhea that causes "accidents," is bloody, or results in greater than two bowel movements above what the child normally experiences in a 24-hour period.
Skin sores that are draining fluid on an uncovered part of the body and are unable to be covered with a bandage.
Respiratory virus symptoms that are worsening or not improving and not better explained by another cause such as seasonal allergies.
Your student may return to school when:
The student has not had a fever (and is not using fever-reducing medicine) for at least 24 hours.
A healthcare provider has evaluated the fever with a new rash and the fever has resolved.
Uncovered skin sores are crusting, and the child is under treatment from a provider.
Vomiting has resolved overnight and the child can hold down food/liquids in the morning.
Diarrhea has improved, and the child is no longer having accidents or is having bowel movements no more than 2 above normal per 24-hour period for the child. Bloody diarrhea should be evaluated by a healthcare provider before return.
Respiratory virus symptoms are getting better overall for at least 24 hours.
Students and staff returning after a respiratory illness can consider additional actions to reduce the spread.
Students schedules will be released on ParentVue & StudentVue on On Thursday, Aug. 14.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your courses, please email your counselor.
Students will need basic school supplies to start the school year - notebook paper, pencils, pens, and highlighters.
All 9th and 10th grade students will receive a 3 ring binder from the school during the first few weeks of school. 11th and 12th grade students should plan to purchase a binder that fits their organizational needs. Any specific supplies needed for a class will be communicated the first few days of school.
All students are expected to bring a charged Chromebook to school every day.
