Foodbank Donations to Take Home
We know how busy life can get, and sometimes putting meals on the table can feel like a challenge.
At Bayside High School, we have a program through The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore that provides a bag of kid-friendly, shelf-stable food about every two weeks. Students will receive an email from Ms. Strader letting them know when to stop by the counseling office to pick up 1-2 bags. These bags will fit perfectly into a backpack. This program is completely free for families and runs from September 2025 through May 2026.
Please note: Some items may contain allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, milk, or eggs. All items are pre-packaged and labeled.
If you’d like your student to pick up 1-2 bags every two weeks, please send an email to Ms. Strader at lisa.strader@vbschools.com and she will add him/her to the list.
We are excited to support your family in this way and hope it helps make weekends a little easier.

VBPS Policy and Regulation:
Policy 5-52: Cell Phone-Free Education-cellular phones and personal communication devices-student.
Regulation 5-52.1: Cellular Phones and Personal Electronic Communication Devices- Limitation on Use
The use of personal communication devices by students during instructional time is determined to be disruptive to the educational environment, not conducive to productive learning experiences and often the source of disciplinary intervention.
This policy is a proactive approach to actively engaging students in learning, preserving instructional time, and to reducing behaviors that interfere with the learning environment. If it is necessary to contact your child during the school day, call our main office. Should students need to contact a parent or guardian, they must use the main office phone. Please reference Policy 5-52 and Regulation 5-52.1for additional details.
VBCPS expectation is that students will not have access to cellphones during the school day.
Any student who uses a personal cell phone, communication device or accessories in violation of a local, state or federal crime will be referred to law enforcement and will be further disciplined for such action. Parents/legal guardians of minor students may be required to meet with the school administrators to address their student’s continued violation of this Regulation. This flyer educates students on the consequences for repeated violations.
We want to emphasize the critical importance of regular school attendance for your child's academic success and overall development. Consistent attendance ensures that your child receives the education and opportunities they deserve. If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, we request that you promptly communicate with the attendance office to report the absence. In line with attendance policies, if a student becomes chronically truant, it may lead to more serious consequences, including loss of academic credit due and/or potential legal actions. Our aim is to provide a safe and enriching environment for all students, and your active involvement in ensuring their regular attendance greatly contributes to achieving this goal. Please refer to the student code of conduct pages, 10-14 with specific attendance guidelines.
Please use the following email for any attendance notes, questions, or concerns: BaysideHSAttendance@vbschools.com. If you are in need of further assistance, please contact the Main Office at 757-648-5200.
Students should be in class and prepared to the learn when the bell rings. Students who enter class late disrupt learning for themselves and their classmates. This flyer educates students on the consequences for repeated tardies.
Parents and Guardians can view Attendance Notices on their ParentSquare app or website and may submit notes back to the school. Parents/Guardians will receive an “Attendance Notice” notification for a full day absence through the ParentSquare App, email, text message, or both. Please see these directions for installing the app and registering for ParentSquare. Follow these steps to submit a full-day attendance note to the Bayside HS Attendance Manager via ParentSquare.
It can be hard to know what to do if your student is ill. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if your student has the following symptoms, they should stay home, as their illness could affect their ability to participate in school and there is concern that they might spread infection to staff and other students:
Fever, including a fever with a new rash.
Vomiting more than twice in the preceding 24 hours.
Diarrhea that causes "accidents," is bloody, or results in greater than two bowel movements above what the child normally experiences in a 24-hour period.
Skin sores that are draining fluid on an uncovered part of the body and are unable to be covered with a bandage.
Respiratory virus symptoms that are worsening or not improving and not better explained by another cause such as seasonal allergies.
Your student may return to school when:
The student has not had a fever (and is not using fever-reducing medicine) for at least 24 hours.
A healthcare provider has evaluated the fever with a new rash and the fever has resolved.
Uncovered skin sores are crusting, and the child is under treatment from a provider.
Vomiting has resolved overnight and the child can hold down food/liquids in the morning.
Diarrhea has improved, and the child is no longer having accidents or is having bowel movements no more than 2 above normal per 24-hour period for the child. Bloody diarrhea should be evaluated by a healthcare provider before return.
Respiratory virus symptoms are getting better overall for at least 24 hours.
Students and staff returning after a respiratory illness can consider additional actions to reduce the spread.
Breakfast: will be served from 7:10 AM - 7:15 AM as a grab and go meal. If your student arrives on a late bus, breakfast will be available to them.
Lunch: will be served from 11:35 AM - 12:35 PM.
NO outside food; (food from fast food restaurants) deliveries will not be accepted including delivery services such as DoorDash and UberEats.
As a reminder, all students attending a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school can receive free breakfast and lunch meals (please note that snacks are not free but are available for purchase). The vbschools.com Food and Nutrition Services page provides more information on CEP schools and how to apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits. If you have questions, call 757-263-1101 or email vbfoods@vbschools.com.
Families seeking additional benefits must submit a current-year meal application to receive an eligibility award letter. These letters will be emailed and/or mailed upon application approval.
Other benefits may include waivers or discounts for:
Certain after-school programs
Summer school tuition
Select cable services
Exam fees (SAT, ACT, AP)
College and university application fees
Dental services
Applications for new Virginia Beach City Public Schools students entering in the 2025–26 school year must be submitted on or after July 1.
For questions, contact the Office of Food Services at 757-263-1101 or vbfoods@vbschools.com. For more information, see Free or Reduced Meal Prices.
