Dr. Vandana B. Patravale is a highly accomplished Professor of Pharmaceutics at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, India, with over 34 years of teaching and research experience. She earned her B. Pharm (1985), M. Pharm. Sci. (1987), and Ph.D. (Tech.) in Pharmaceutics (1992) from the University of Mumbai.
Dr. Patravale is a distinguished fellow of leading scientific bodies including the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Indian Chemical Society, and Maharashtra Academy of Sciences, among others. Dr. Patravale has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, 5 books, and 45 book chapters, accumulating over 16,000 citations, placing her in the top 2% of global pharmacy scientists based on productivity and impact. She holds 30 granted patents, with 20 patents under review, and 2 trademark registries, evidencing her prolific innovation in pharmaceutical sciences. Her research spans nanocarriers for infectious diseases, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, tissue and cartilage regeneration, cosmeceuticals, medical devices like coronary stents and intrauterine devices, nano diagnostics, vaccine formulations, and advanced drug delivery systems.
Dr. Patravale is the President of the Controlled Release Society (Indian Chapter), Convener of the IPC 2025, APTI Women Forum, Vice President of the Pediatric Medicine Healthcare Initiative, and holds editorial roles in reputed journals including Elsevier’s Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology. Her notable accomplishments include development and technology transfer of drug-eluting stents marketed in over 65 countries, making affordable cardiac care accessible globally. She leads a robust research group with numerous government and international-funded projects, including Indo-Swiss, Indo-UK, Indo-Ireland, and Indo-Japan collaborations.
An award-winning leader, she has received numerous honors such as the Distinguished Alumnus Award from UDCT (2024), Most Iconic Healthcare Leader (Global, 2023), Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship (2021), and several prestigious national and international awards recognizing her excellence in pharmaceutical research, teaching, and innovation. Dr. Patravale is an influential mentor to over 37 Ph.D. and 93 master’s students and an active consultant to pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and medical device industries, significantly contributing to academia-industry translational research and healthcare advancements in India and worldwide.
