Thank you! 🎉
As we reach the end of Summer 1, I want to take a moment to celebrate what has been a truly wonderful half term . Our pupils have shown incredible enthusiasm for their learning, and it's been a joy to see them grow in confidence and curiosity.
Looking ahead to Summer 2, we have so much to look forward to! Our annual Sports Day will be a highlight – a chance for every child to shine, challenge themselves, and celebrate the power of teamwork and perseverance.
This term will also bring exciting learning opportunities through our planned trips and visits. From exploring new places to welcoming visitors from near and far, these experiences will enrich our curriculum and spark meaningful conversations both in school and at home. Each adventure has been carefully planned to connect with what your children are learning in the classroom and to bring their learning to life.
For our Year 6 pupils, we have special transition workshops designed to prepare them for their next exciting chapter at secondary school. These sessions will help build their confidence and ensure they feel ready for the opportunities ahead. All year groups will also take part in transition sessions, giving every child the chance to reflect on their achievements this year and prepare for their new class in September.
We're also delighted to welcome work experience pupils into our school community this term. This gives our children wonderful role models and provides valuable learning opportunities for young people considering careers in education.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Have a restful half term, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for what promises to be a fantastic final half term of the year.
Big question: Ask your child: What are you most looking forward to in our final term together? 💭

This week, Caterpillars had a wonderful time exploring the mud kitchen through a variety of hands-on nature activities. They enjoyed digging, creating imaginative “mud meals,” observing and measuring water flow, and collecting natural materials such as leaves, pebbles, and sticks. These experiences encouraged creativity, curiosity, teamwork, and sensory exploration in a fun and engaging outdoor environment.
This week, the Butterflies had a fantastic time practising their subtraction number sentences. The children used a variety of strategies to help solve the problems, including counting objects such as cubes and teddy bears, using their fingers, and, for some, working out the answers mentally. We are so proud of their growing confidence and enthusiasm in maths — well done, Butterflies!
Year 1 have had a fantastic time in their Art lessons creating their very own balancing bird sculptures! The children explored a variety of materials, including cardboard, wire, collage, and drawing tools, to design and build unique birds full of personality and creativity.
The children carefully experimented with balance and structure, learning how to position the legs and feet so their sculptures could stand independently. They then used a range of drawing materials to create beautiful feather textures and patterns, exploring colour, line, and shape through mixed media techniques.
To complete their sculptures, the children used collage skills to add feathers, wings, tails, and texture, transforming their birds into imaginative 3D creations. We were so impressed by their creativity, resilience, and problem-solving skills throughout the project, and each sculpture was wonderfully unique!
In Maths this week, Year 2 has been learning all about position and direction. The children have explored how to describe movement and location using positional language through practical activities, games and problem-solving challenges. They have enjoyed giving and following directions, navigating routes, and using maps and grids.
We have been focusing on important mathematical vocabulary including: left, right, forwards, backwards, above, below, beside, between, clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter turn, half turn and three-quarter turn. The children have become increasingly confident in describing positions and explaining movements accurately.
Over the half-term break, a simple way to support this learning at home is to play a “Robot Directions” game. One person acts as the robot while the other gives instructions such as:
“Take 3 steps forwards”
“Turn a quarter turn clockwise”
“Move backwards two steps”
“Turn anticlockwise”
You could also create obstacle courses around the house and challenge your child to guide you through using precise positional language. These fun activities are a great way to help cement their understanding while building confidence with mathematical vocabulary.
In Maths this week, Eagle Class explored how equal parts can be differently shaped. The children cut and rearranged templates to investigate how shapes can be partitioned into equal areas in a variety of ways. Through this practical activity, they developed their understanding of fractions, reasoning, problem-solving and spatial awareness. The larger templates also helped the children practise important skills such as careful measuring, cutting accurately, recognising equal parts and explaining their mathematical thinking.
This week, Eagle Class took part in an Into University session where they explored a wide range of future careers and learned about the different pathways people can take to achieve their goals. The children worked collaboratively in groups to brainstorm ideas about different jobs and discuss the skills and qualities needed for each role. They were then challenged to match careers to a variety of pictures and clues, encouraging them to think carefully about the responsibilities and environments linked to different professions. Throughout the session, the children showed excellent teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, while also developing a greater understanding of the exciting opportunities available to them in the future.
Sparking Learning at Home
We were delighted when one of our pupils was so inspired by our Science topic on electricity that they went home and built their own circuit with their parents to share with the class. It was a wonderful opportunity to extend their classroom learning at home, while also enjoying some special family bonding time. We loved seeing their enthusiasm and creativity in action!
Year 5 truly outdid themselves with their incredible class performance, The Art of Locking In! Over the past few weeks, the children have shown outstanding dedication, resilience and teamwork, putting in hours of rehearsal to make the production such a success. From learning lines and perfecting timing to singing, acting and supporting one another backstage, every single child played an important part and should feel extremely proud of what they achieved. Their confidence and enthusiasm shone through from start to finish and the audience could clearly see just how much effort had gone into the performance.
Following on from a fantastic weekend, the Tigers took part in a PGL Writing Studio, where we looked at all the different writing types we could create from our amazing weekend away!
To help generate writing ideas, they took part in a carousel activity where they rotated around different stations focused on key aspects of the residential experience, including exciting activities, friendship and teamwork, building confidence, evening fun, food and energy and reasons why children should attend PGL..
For their first task, they used their ideas from the carousel to begin organising and planning the sections of their own persuasive leaflets.
We are excited to encourage all families to sign up to the Language Angels Glurbs app! This fun and interactive app helps children practise their language skills at home through games and activities that build confidence and enjoyment in learning. The more children use the app, the more points they can earn — helping our school climb the leaderboard and win exciting prizes! Thank you for supporting your child’s learning and helping our school take part in this fantastic opportunity.
