Team 12 video
As a Gold Rights Respecting School, we are dedicated to continually deepening our understanding of children’s rights. Team 12, with the support of Mr. Sime and Mrs. Henry, has created a thoughtful and engaging video to showcase and educate our school community about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

What great fun some of the children in Nursery had, exploring the ice with sea creatures inside. They spent all morning trying to rescue them by using spoons to crack and break the ice.
This week, the children have been learning about different positional language: on top, beside, under, below, next to, behind, and in front. They have been doing 1:1 work using pom-poms and placing them in different positions.
Our story book of the week was Snow bear. The children enjoyed listening to the story and contributed significantly to the story. We discussed how the little snow bear felt when he got lost using words, such as sad, grumpy, lonely, angry and frustrated. We also described the little snow bear using words and sentences.
Year 1 are taking part in the Evelina Hospital School Art Exhibition. They created pieces of artwork based on the theme of “London Landmarks.” At Evelina Hospital School, pupils are learning about the life and work of two artists – Stephen Wiltshire and Yoni Alter.
Year 1 based their art work on the artist Yoni Alter. The children created abstract pieces of art using shapes and colours to represent famous London landmarks.
We are hopeful that some of the children’s artwork will be displayed in the exhibition for children and parents to enjoy.
Year 1 have been learning about Emily Davison and why she remains such an important figure in history. The children explored the fight for women’s right to vote and discussed why achieving this equality was such a critical milestone. To bring this to life, the children examined real suffragette posters, discovering the powerful messages and emotions behind them. This inspired, the children to design their own Votes for Women posters. Then, in a burst of energy and determination, the class staged a lively march around the school, chanting slogans and proudly holding up their posters. It was an unforgettable way to step into the shoes of suffragettes and truly feel the power of standing up for what’s right!
Year 2 visited Vauxhall City farm as part of learning about where our food comes from and how different food types make their journey from the earth, seas and trees, to be part of our balanced diet. Students also had a fantastic opportunity to meet some of the different animals on the farm and feed them – some of the children were also able to overcome their fears and give it a go! Well done Year 2!
In science, Year 3 learnt about air resistance using paper. They dropped a flat piece of paper and a scrunched-up ball of paper to see which one fell faster. The flat paper fell slowly because air resistance pushed against its large surface. The scrunched-up paper fell faster because it had less air resistance. This experiment showed how air resistance works and how the shape of an object can change how quickly it falls!
This term Year 4's Science topic is ‘States of Matter’. They have been looking at the different particles of the three states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) and recently have conducted experiments identifying if a gas has weight.
The first experiment conducted included weighing fizzy drinks with the gas still trapped inside, then weighing them again after shaking the bottles and letting the fizz out.
The second experiment included a water bottle, some vinegar, a balloon and some baking powder. The baking powder was our solid material and the acid vinegar which was our liquid. The children got to see that when the solid was mixed with the liquid it caused a chemical reaction creating a gas. This gas is called carbon dioxide (CO2), the CO2 tries to leave but as it is trapped it travels up into the balloon pushing against the balloon inflating it.
Year 5 worked hard in using blocks to find the volume of irregular shapes. They worked
systematically to build the taller “towers” first and then built the smaller ones around them.
It was an exciting lesson and the children should be proud of how they worked in a methodical
way to solve the volume.
Year 5 made 3D nets. They each made one shape and had to work together to find the properties of 4 other shapes. They discussed cubes, cuboids triangular prisms, pentagonal prisms and cylinders. Well done all!
This week, we have been finding out more about the main character, Edda, in our class text ‘Resist’. Edda is based on the real life Hollywood actress, Audrey Hepburn - it is such a fascinating true story! We learned even more about the Dutch Resistance in WW2 and used our new knowledge and understanding to write our own letters of support and persuasion to assist the Resistance!
Flexing our scientific enquiry skills to demonstrate how light helps us to see.
Leaning more about finding equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.
Coding Club has now started after school on Mondays. Children will be using a variety of coding software to program algorithms and improve their critical thinking skills.
The children have been using Micro:Bit hardware, which was donated to the school by the BBC.
For those unable to attend Tuesday's 'Meet the Parents' session, please find attached all the information from our Parent Café. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Please see all upcoming Parent Cafés for this term.
The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week is a online safety focus on the gaming platform 'Roblox'. Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.
