Welcome Back to a New Term!
We hope you had a restful break and enjoyed quality time with family and friends. It’s wonderful to see how well the children have settled back into school. Their focus in lessons and their kindness towards others have been truly impressive.
This term promises to be an exciting one! We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors who will share their expertise with the children, organising trips to explore the fascinating places in our local area, and creating enriching experiences within the school.
We’re also making a change to our newsletter—it will now be sent out fortnightly. This will allow us to include more meaningful updates, upcoming events, and celebrations of the children’s achievements, while ensuring better quality communication.
We value your feedback as a way to keep improving our school, so please keep your ideas coming. Don’t forget to join us for a warm drink and a chat with other parents and carers on the 21st January and the 4th February —it’s a great opportunity to connect and share ideas.
Here’s to a fantastic term ahead!
Nursery's topic this term is Under the Sea, and the children got creative by making sea turtles using fruits like grapes, kiwis, and raisins. It was a deliciously fun way to combine art and healthy eating!
This week in Nursery, the children explored the new phonics sound "M" by playing a fun matching game where they jumped on the letter "M." It was a great way to get active while learning!
This week in reception we have been learning about patterns in Maths. We practised making patterns in different ways. We did this using our two favourite colours.
This week, Year 1 had an unexpected visitor – an alien named Beegu crash-landed her spaceship right in their playground! At first, the children were puzzled, wondering what could have caused the crash. After some investigation, they discovered it was a yellow alien named Beegu, who had gone missing.
To help find her, the children got creative and made 'Missing' posters with pictures of Beegu. These posters have been placed around the school, and the search is on! Keep an eye out for Beegu – she might just need your help to find her way home!
Year 2 built upon their learning this week to solve a series of multiplication problems. They used counters to help them visualise the groupings of equal numbers to help write multiplication sentences and used their times tables knowledge to solve a variety of questions. Some were even able to extend their knowledge to decomposing multiplication questions!
This week in PSHE, Year 3 were focusing on understanding core emotions and how they shape our experiences. We learnt to recognise the key emotions we all feel, such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and love, and to identify the behaviours that are often linked to each emotion. For example, we might smile or laugh when we’re happy or cry when we’re sad. We are also exploring the different factors that can affect our emotions, such as events in our lives, how we think about situations, and even how other people around us behave. By understanding these elements, we can become better at recognising and managing our emotions in different situations.
In Year 4's English lesson they have begun reading a new book called Frindleswylde.
In the story a young girl- Cora, is in her cottage alone whilst her granny goes to work in the cold blizzard. A young ice boy then sneaks into the cottage and takes Cora’s lamplight, the lamp is the only thing which allows her granny to find her way back home.
Therefore as a class, year 4 took a vote!
Should Cora follow this strange mysterious, young ice boy?
or
Stay at home, as she has never been out of her cottage alone into the freezing cold blizzard.
The children’s votes were in! Year 4 decided Cora should follow the ice boy and get back her lamp, because without it she may never see her granny again.
Welcome back!
Year 6 have returned to school ready to hit the ground running as we dive into the spring term.
With SATs just around the corner, we’ll be focusing on revision and preparation to ensure everyone feels confident and supported.
This week, Year 6 took also part in a Wellbeing Survey which was an important opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings as we continue to prioritise their mental health and happiness.
We look forward to a productive and positive term ahead!
The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week is a online safety focus on Justalk Kids'. Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.
