London Fire Brigade

On Wednesday, Year 2 and Year 5 had a visit from London Fire Brigade.

The children learnt that fire is dangerous, and can hurt people. They learnt about common fire hazards, and to never play with matches and lighters. The children also spoke about smoke alarms and how they keep homes safe from fire, what to do in an emergency if there is a fire, and how to call 999. In Year 5 they also discussed how to make fire escape plans from homes.

LFB offer free home fire safety visits. Please see the pdf attacthed

IntoUniversity

Last week, Year 6 went to IntoUniversity for immersive educational  workshops. The sessions supported students’ aspirations, attainment and development of key skills that promote success at school and beyond.

The FOCUS topic was History (Freedom and the Abolition of Slavery). The children visited historical sights and learnt about important historical figures that helped create change. On Friday, the children had a graduation ceremony to share their knowledge from the workshop in front of their peers and their parents.

It was a lovely experience that we hope encourages children to continue their pursuit of knowledge in the future.

Design your very own gift card for a chance to win money to spend on books...and a bookshop visit for your class.

National Book Tokens’ annual DESIGN A NATIONAL BOOK TOKEN competition is back, inviting children of all ages to get creative and share their love for books and reading by designing their own fabulous gift cards!

The winning entrants will receive HUNDREDS of pounds worth of National Book Tokens for their schools and themselves. PLUS the overall winner will get a £10 National Book Token in their winning design for every child in their class… and the opportunity to spend them in a visit to a local bookshop!

This year’s theme is ‘Read Your Way’. Every reader is different, and there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy reading. Encourage children to think about what reading looks like for them, and what it can look like for others.

To enter, children should design a National Book Tokens gift card with this theme in mind – and thinking about what might make someone want to buy their gift card if it was on display in a real shop.

If you would like to enter, please use the template attatched. Any entries need to be submitted to Miss Pilgrim, no later than Tuesday 20th February 2024.

In the fast and ever-changing online world, it is vital that we are able to keep up to date. At Vauxhall Primary School, we take online safety very seriously and encourage all pupils to use ICT and the internet in a safe and responsible manner.

In school, all filters and restrictions are set to the necessary level and pupils are closely monitored at all times while accessing ICT. Online safety is covered termly as part of our curriculum.

There are several good websites that provide additional information to support you, these include:

Childline: Staying Safe Online

Childnet: Parent & Carers Toolkit

Attendance & Punctuality

This week’s Attendance Award Cup goes to Year 4 with 98% of pupils attending in their class!

Well done!

Punctuality Owl goes to Year 3 with 93% of pupils attending school on time this week.

Fantastic!

The Government’s as well as the school’s expectation is that all children should have an attendance figure of 95-97%, and we are committed to working with you to achieve this.  We are urging parents not to book holidays in term time as your child will miss vital chunks of learning which could have a detrimental effect on their  progress. In line with Lambeth’s guidance, we will not authorise any holidays in term time, unless there are exceptional circumstances.  Punctuality is also important, as  lateness can affect pupils' progress.  We will be closely monitoring punctuality and will put strategies in place to  support pupils who are persistently late.  The school gate opens for a soft start from 8:45 am and the register closes at 9:05 am.  Thank you for your support.
