Welcome back ! Can I start by saying a big thank you on behalf of the staff for your lovely gifts to us all before Christmas. In these difficult times, your generosity was overwhelming. I hope you had a peaceful Christmas break and enjoyed spending time with your family. It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school and see them settle back to school life well. We have lots in store for 2024 which we will keep you informed of through our newsletter, email and text. One of our focuses this term is improving punctuality and attendance, if you need any support please speak with Mrs Henry. Have a great week!
After school clubs will commence next week - Monday 15th January 2024. If you wish for your child to attend a club, please ensure that you have signed up and paid via Parent Pay.
FRED – which stands for 'Fathers Reading Every Day' – is “a simple, effective and sustainable intervention” from the Fatherhood Institute that aims to get dads (or any other male influences such as: uncles, grandads, etc) reading to their children in order to help improve the educational outcomes and wellbeing of those children. It’s a 6 week “reading-for-pleasure programme” run at the school in the Nursery setting which will commence here at Vauxhall Primary within the next few months. The hope is that, after the completion of those six weeks, the family will have learnt new positive habits around reading together, which will continue throughout childhood and beyond.
The Fatherhood Institute are currently looking for volunteers to join the 'Dad Squad' to help and support the programme. Please see the PDF attached for more information. If you wish to express your interest, please speak to Miss Pilgrim.
For more information and to download the StreetTag app, please visit the website by using the link below.
StreetTag is an app that encourages children and their families to be more active and to travel sustainably to school by turning the world around them into a virtual playground. Users earn points in the app by walking, running, scooting or cycling to the virtual tags that have been placed throughout their community. The points can be collected if the app is off-line to save the user’s data allowance.
We are encouraging families, teachers and staff to download and use the app. A parent/carer user can register two children on their app.
There are three seasons planned; points earned during each seasons by everyone who has signed up to the leaderboard will be added to the total for the school with the following prizes to be awarded each season to the top five schools:
1st Place: £500, 2nd Place: £350, 3rd Place: £150, 4th Place: £100, 5th Place: £50 (to be awarded as sports vouchers).
Season Dates:
Season 1: 10th January to 19th March 2024
