We are proud to be a Gold Rights Respecting School, meaning children's rights are at the heart of everything we do.
Next week, we will coninue to focus on:
Article 2 (non-discrimination) The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.
Article 30 (children from minority or indigenous groups) Every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family, whether or not these are shared by the majority of the people in the country where they live.

At Vauxhall primary Scholl we ensure our curriculum and coverage in school is inclusive and reflective of the children we teach, and the world they live in, all year round. The UK Black history Month theme for this year is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ #reclaimingnarratives.
Today, VPS had the pleasure of welcoming Alim Kamara to our school to showcase his storytelling skills. His workshop was engaging, fun and informative. Alim highlighted how many common perceptions of Africa have been misleading or inaccurate. For example, did you know that Africa is home to over 2,000 distinct languages?, showcasing its rich cultural diversity. We listened to Alim playing traditional drums, took part in interactive stories he told us and learned a lot too! It was an amazing experience for all!
Article 2 (non-discrimination) The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.
On Thursday, the children in Years 1 and 2 enjoyed watching Muffin Don't Get Squashed, a lively play delivered by The Riot Act theatre company. Through Muffin's adventures, they learnt important lessons about road safety and the Green Cross Code. The engaging performance helped the children understand how to stay safe when crossing the road, making the experience both fun and educational!
This week, Year 4 received a mysterious letter from 'The Secret Gardener' pleading for them to learn more about the wilderness as the gardener's home has been destroyed leaving no plants and flowers left. So, Year 4 took it upon themselves to learn about the different parts of a flower and their functions. In pairs they were able to dissect a lily flower in order to carefully look at the different parts. With their partner they then labelled each part and identified their functions.
Article 29 (goals of education) Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.

The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week is an online safety focus 'In Game Chat'. Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.
Article 17 (access to information from the media) Every child has the right to reliable information from a variety of sources, and governments should encourage the media to provide information that children can understand. Governments must help protect children from materials that could harm them.

Important Attendance and Punctuality information
Consistent attendance helps ensure that pupils keep up with the curriculum and stay on track with their peers. It also allows children to build and maintain friendships, develop social skills, and participate in group activities
Please be reminded of the following:
Register Times:
Soft start from 8:45 AM
The school day starts at 8:50 AM.
The attendance register closes at 9:20 AM.
Marking Late Arrivals:
Arriving by 9:20 AM: If your child arrives between 9:00 AM and 9:20 AM, they will be marked as late (Code L).
Arriving after 9:20 AM: If your child arrives after 9:20 AM, they will be marked with an unauthorised absence for that session (Code U). 10 sessions (5 half days) of Unauthorised absence during a rolling 10 week period could lead to a fixed penalty notice of £80 if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid within 28 days.
Occasional lateness can be unavoidable, but regular punctuality is crucial for your child’s learning and development. We encourage you to make every effort for your child to attend school by 8:50 AM daily.
For more information, please check your inbox for a letter from the Lambeth Education Welfare Service, sent today, detailing the recent changes. Additionally, click here for latest government guidance on what parents need to know
