Welcome to our final edition of the term – and what a term it has been!
The children have worked incredibly hard, supported one another, and shown great resilience – we are truly proud of them.
I wish you all a restful half-term break and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 2nd June, bright and early, ready for a bumper-packed final term!
Don’t forget to check our mountain of lost property for any missing items, and please remember to label your child’s belongings so we can return them to their rightful owners.
Thank you for all your continued support – we really do appreciate it! In the meantime, enjoy exploring all the exciting learning and news we've packed into this week’s update!
This term, Year 1 have been learning all about plants and what they need to grow and stay healthy. As part of their science topic, they have started an experiment—planting seeds and placing them under different conditions such as with or without sunlight and water. Over the coming weeks, the children will be observing the plants closely to see how they grow and change.
Year 3 completed their learning on 3D shapes in a fun and hands-on way. The children followed step-by-step instructions to construct their own 3D shapes, helping to bring their learning to life. Through their creations, they were able to confidently identify and describe the properties of various 3D shapes, including faces, edges, and vertices.
Year 4 have kicked off their Design and Technology topic by exploring the concept of pavilions. As part of their learning, the children used sweets and cocktail sticks to construct their own miniature structures. This hands-on activity gave them the chance to apply their knowledge of 3D shapes, recently covered in maths, and to experiment with designing strong and stable forms.
The pupils began by building basic geometric frameworks before moving on to more complex constructions, carefully considering strength, stability, and aesthetics in their designs. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to think creatively, test ideas, and let their imaginations soar. We were incredibly impressed by their enthusiasm and the brilliant structures they produced!
Year 5 have been learning about Ancient Egypt this term and our lessons culminated with the creation of mummies. The class have been learning about Egyptian ways of life and how they had such a prosperous lifestyle with relatively little tools. It was a very fun lesson and the children understood just how complex and clever the Egyptians were.
Our Year 5 pupils recently represented the school at The Oval Sports Day, competing with enthusiasm and team spirit against other local schools. From sprints to relays, they gave it their all and showed fantastic team work. We’re incredibly proud of their effort, determination, and the way they supported one another throughout the day. Well done, Year 5!
Year 6 recently took part in an exciting vegetarian cook-along in partnership with Cook School and Linda McCartney’s. Working in small groups, the children followed a recipe to prepare delicious Vegetarian Chicken Empanadas.
From chopping fresh veg to folding their tortilla wraps, the children showed teamwork, creativity and some impressive culinary skills!
They even took their creations home to bake and enjoy — a tasty takeaway from a fun, hands-on session.
This week, we were treated to a fantastic musical assembly from Soundsteps Music School. The children learned how fun and exciting learning a musical instrument can be. The session ended on a high with a whole-school rendition of ‘We Will Rock You’ — complete with clapping, singing and plenty of rhythm!
A huge thank you to Soundsteps for bringing the joy of music to our hall!
This term, the children have been busy exploring all things computing – from coding to digital art and beyond! Take a look at the fantastic work they’ve been doing and see the exciting progress being made in class.
Next term, we will be offering a Lunchtime Homework Club every Tuesday. This initiative is open to all children in Years 1 to 6 and is designed to provide additional support in completing homework.
We encourage you to discuss this opportunity with your child, particularly if they find homework challenging or have difficulty completing it at home.
