Welcome to our first newsletter of the summer term!
We're excited to share how well the children have settled into their learning activities, as well as news about upcoming events.
Please take note of the 'Dates for the Diary' section to ensure you don't miss any important events.
Thankfully, we are seeing warmer weather — at last! Please remember to send your child(ren) with a water bottle each day so they can sip throughout the day. They will be able to refill their bottles as needed.
As the warm weather continues, children naturally remove their cardigans and jumpers. To help ensure these items are returned to the rightful owners, please clearly label each item with your child’s name. We currently have a mountain of cardigans, hoodies, jumpers, and coats in lost property. Feel free to check the lost property area at the beginning or end of the day, and encourage your child to have a look during playtimes too.
Wishing you an enjoyable and productive week!
In reception this week, the children wrote the steps for planting their bean seeds using their ‘Fred fingers’ and ‘Fred talk’.
As part of the Veg Power – Growing to Love campaign, Year 1 have begun an exciting journey — growing their very own tomatoes! We believe one of the best ways for children to develop a love for vegetables is by growing them from seed to plate.
This week, the children got their hands dirty in the sowing stage. They chose their planting spaces, placed their seedlings into compost, gave them a good watering, and even added a little plant food to help them grow strong and healthy.
In the upcoming weeks, the children will be caring for the plants as they grow!
Year 2 have settled back in to their learning really well, producing some excellent pieces of writing based on the book Lizzy and the Cloud by Eric and Terry Fan, showcasing their learning from across the year.
This term, Year 3 embarked on an exciting literary adventure after discovering a series of mysterious drawings left in their classroom. They soon learned that these intriguing illustrations were the work of Harris Burdick — a mysterious figure who had entrusted the portfolio to Ms Darteh before disappearing without a trace.
Inspired by the enigmatic images, Year 3 have been commissioned to create their own stories based on one of the illustrations, under the project title 'The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, according to Vauxhall Year 3.'
The classroom has been buzzing with creativity as the children discuss ideas, weave plots, and imagine the secrets behind each mysterious picture. We can’t wait to read the wonderful stories they produce and see how their imaginations bring Harris Burdick’s mysteries to life!
Year 4 have begun their new reading book called Weslandia by Paul Fleischman. In the story the young boy Wesley who is the protagonist, dreamt of a more exciting shelter. So, Year 4 had the opportunity to create their own exciting shelters using their imagination as well as the different types of materials and resources they had on their tables. They ensured it had the following attributes – it must be waterproof,
windproof and warm. Using noun phrases and abstract nouns, they wrote sentences about the different parts they included on their shelters and how this allows it to be an amazing shelter where anyone would wish to live.
Year 5 concluded a 10 week long project being run by the London Transport Museum this week. They finished by creating models of sustainable pieces of infrastructure. The models created included bus stops that are powered by solar panels, snails that ‘eat’ rubbish from the road and convert it into energy and also ‘fox trains’ that take polluted air from the underground and turn it into clean air. They worked so well in teams and these models will be on display in the Transport Museum over the weekend! Well done Year 5!
Year 6 have returned from Easter focused and ready to work hard!
This week, they have been practising working under timed conditions and preparing for their SATs in a few weeks by revising key skills in reading, maths and SPaG. The children have shown great determination and resilience and we're really proud of the positive attitude they're bringing to every session!
Following on from our exciting 'A Town Explored a Book' assembly, where the children imagined discovering something hidden in the earth, they took part in a creative writing competition.
We were thrilled to see so many children enter, and the quality of writing was truly impressive. A huge well done to everyone who took part – and special congratulations to our talented winners!
Please check the timetable for your child's PE days. On these days, your child should come to school wearing their PE kit. A reminder that PE kits must be navy blue or black.

Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
