As we reach the end of spring term, thank you to all our parents and carers for your wonderful support. Your attendance at school performances, help with community events and trips, and time volunteering with our pupils has been invaluable. This term we've made great progress with our oracy work, and we were pleased to welcome successful visits from our school improvement advisor and executive head. Our teachers and staff have worked incredibly hard, and our children have shown such resilience and joy in their learning. It's been a pleasure to see them flourish. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the summer term, where we'll continue building on all the wonderful progress made this year. Wishing you all a restful break.
We hope you enjoy this week's newsletter...

Time to enjoy calming activities
This week children had a wonderful time learning about what it means to be enterprising. They worked hard to create their own ideas for products and stalls. They also learned how to plan a simple budget, think about costs, and understand how to make a profit. The pupils showed fantastic creativity when designing and marketing their products to others.
It has been lovely to see the children confidently talking about their ideas and selling their items. They demonstrated teamwork, problem-solving, and great enthusiasm throughout.
We would like to say a big thank you for your support. Whether you helped your child prepare, attended the fair, or encouraged them at home, it made a real difference.
We are very proud of all the children and their efforts! Well done Vauxhall!
We are delighted to share the success of our second Book Gifting Event this year, delivered in partnership with The Children’s Book Project as part of their Discovery Programme. This wonderful initiative helps to promote a love of reading while tackling book poverty.
This term, children enjoyed visiting a special Pop-Up Bookshop in school, where they were able to browse a wide range of high-quality new and pre-loved books. Using tokens, each child selected two books to take home and keep.
Across the year, every child will have the opportunity to choose six free books in total. The books are theirs to treasure or share with friends, helping to build home libraries and encourage reading for pleasure.
We encourage you to take time to read these books with your child at home, talk about the stories, and enjoy sharing this special experience together. It has been fantastic to see the excitement and enthusiasm the children have shown when choosing their books!
This week in EYFS, the children enjoyed measuring themselves outdoors. They compared the length and height of each other using different maths vocabulary.
Butterflies practised their mouse control skills during their ICT lesson.
This term in Year 1 Music, the children have been enjoying learning the song “Round and Round” by Joanna Mangona. They have been developing their singing skills, building confidence, and exploring rhythm through fun activities.
As well as singing, the children have begun learning how to play the glockenspiel, using three notes to create simple melodies. Some children have even started to learn how to play “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” which has been very exciting to see.
They have also taken part in lots of movement activities, combining singing and dancing to help them feel the music and keep in time.
Healthy Eating in Class: Making Our Own Wraps
This week, the children enjoyed a healthy eating activity where they made their own wraps. They explored a range of fresh ingredients and learned how different foods can be combined to create a balanced and tasty meal.
The children helped to plan their wraps by choosing ingredients they thought would taste good together. They talked about flavours, colours, and textures, and practised combining different foods such as vegetables, protein fillings, and healthy spreads. After making their wraps, the children had the opportunity to taste them and share their thoughts about what combinations they liked best.
You may like to try making wraps at home together. It is a simple and healthy meal, and children often enjoy choosing their own ingredients.
This term in Science, Eagle Class have been learning all about rocks. The children enjoyed getting hands-on by physically examining a range of different rocks, using their senses to feel their textures and closely observe their appearance.
They learnt about the three main types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic, and were able to sort and group rocks based on their characteristics. Through this exploration, the children can now confidently describe how different rocks look and feel, using scientific vocabulary to explain their ideas.
It has been a fantastic topic that sparked lots of curiosity and enthusiasm!
Eagle Class had a fantastic time in their D&T lesson, where they developed important cooking skills and learned how to use a variety of kitchen equipment safely. They were introduced to tools such as chopping boards, knives, peelers, graters, and more, and were taught how to handle each one carefully to ensure they stayed safe while working.
The children practised a range of techniques including chopping, peeling, and grating. They explored how to prepare different vegetables such as potatoes, cucumber, bell peppers, red and white onions, spring onions, radish, asparagus, and avocados. They learnt specific methods for peeling and cutting each type of vegetable, building both confidence and independence in the kitchen.
To finish the lesson, Eagle Class put their new skills into action by creating their own vegetable tarts using puff pastry. They chose which vegetables to include, added cheese, and then baked their creations in the oven. The lesson ended on a high note as the children proudly took their delicious tarts home to share and enjoy with their families.
Year 4 had a very busy and exciting week with a visit from Youth Kitchen, courtesy of Itsu. The chef began the session with an interesting presentation about healthy eating and the importance of a balanced diet. The children then learned how to use a peeler, knife and spiralizer safely.
After their training, the children made their own vegetable box to take home so they could make a ramen recipe with their families. Everyone worked incredibly hard, and three children even won extra prizes for their effort and excellent work.
Well done, Year 4!
Year 5 have had a wonderful end to a busy and productive half term! We kicked off the week by visiting our Pop Up Book Shop, where the children were able to collect 2 books and a bookmark to take home! The amount that Year 5 students are reading at home is steadily increasing, and as a result, we are seeing a steady improvement in their creativity and grammatical accuracy in their writing! This should continue being a priority throughout the holidays! We also developed our Oracy skills in Science by producing presentations explaining why the Earth has day and night. They included key words such as orbit, axis and rotate in their presentations, in groups! I was very proud of how the class listened to each other, as well as the way everyone projected their voices and spoke clearly! Well done and have a great break!
6 Tigers were delighted to welcome Elevate Education back to school to deliver an engaging “Elevate X RTG” workshop.
This session, run in partnership with Lambeth Council’s Raising The Game programme, focused on memory techniques and the use of mnemonics to support learning. Building on the previous workshop on study skills, they explored practical strategies to help them retain and recall information more effectively - an essential skill as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
The class had a lot of fun while they learned great practical tools to help them this year with their upcoming SATs and before moving on to secondary school!
The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week's online safety focus is ''Pokemon TCG Pocket". Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.

We're here to help!
If you're finding mornings difficult, please speak to us. We're here to help and can offer practical support and strategies to make mornings smoother.
We recently asked pupils from Years 1–6 how safe they feel in school and who they can talk to if they are worried.
We are pleased that most children say they feel safe, happy, and supported by adults in school. They also told us they understand how to stay safe, including online.
The survey also helped us identify a few areas to improve. Some children said they feel less confident during playtimes or are not always sure who to talk to if they have a concern.
In response, we will be:
Increasing adult presence at playtimes
Reminding children regularly about trusted adults in school
Continuing to support positive behaviour and friendships
Safeguarding remains our highest priority, and we will continue to listen to pupil voice to make sure every child feels safe, confident, and supported.
If you have any concerns about a child's wellbeing, please contact our safeguarding team via the school office : office@vauxhallprimary.org.uk
