What a fantastic turnout for our oracy-themed stay and learn session this week. Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us to explore how we're developing our pupils' speaking and listening skills.
It was brilliant to see you working alongside your children, asking questions, sharing ideas and building their confidence in communication. The children absolutely loved having you there, and your engagement really reinforces the importance of oracy both at school and at home.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us build a culture where every voice is heard and valued. We can't wait to see you at our next session!

This school year, we are launching our Language of the Month initiative, where children will learn about and celebrate the languages spoken in our school community. We are pleased to begin with Somali.
If you would like more information or wish to support this initiative, please contact Ms Darteh.
This week, our EYFS children enjoyed exploring repeating patterns in a variety of creative ways. They used collage materials and construction toys to design, build, and extend patterns, developing their early maths skills alongside fine motor control and imagination.
The Butterflies class also had an exciting milestone as they took part in their very first ICT lesson. The children were introduced to using technology confidently and safely, and they had lots of fun learning through interactive activities.
Over the past couple of weeks in Year 1, the children learned about Emily Davison and the Suffragettes.
They discovered that women were not always allowed to vote and talked about why it was important for women to have a voice and be treated fairly. The children explored Suffragette posters and learnt about the messages used to stand up for change.
To bring their learning to life, the children created their own Votes for Women posters and took part in a class march, just like the Suffragettes did. This helped them understand how people in the past worked together to make life fairer for everyone.
Despite the cold weather, our students have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm and skill in a wide range of sporting activities. Taekwondo has been especially popular, helping children build confidence, improve balance and coordination, develop focus and respect, and stay active while having fun. A reminder that our Morning Taekwondo Club runs every Tuesday and all abilities are welcome.
Students have also been enjoying gymnastics sessions on Thursday mornings with Mr Ferdinand. Using a range of apparatus, children have been developing strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and confidence when trying new skills. It has been wonderful to see them challenge themselves and enjoy learning new physical skills.
In ICT, students are learning about computational thinking by solving problems step by step in fun and simple ways. They have been practising breaking tasks into small steps, putting instructions in order, spotting patterns, and fixing mistakes through activities such as coding games, digital stories, and unplugged learning. These lessons help build confidence, persistence, and support learning across the curriculum.
In literacy this week, Eagle Class explored non-chronological reports. We worked together as a class to identify and label the key features of a non-fiction text. We began by discussing the differences between fiction and non-fiction, using examples such as Horrid Henry and a DK children’s sports book. We learnt about the important features including headings, subheadings, introductions, paragraphs, fact boxes, technical language and a formal tone. Using a different non-chronological report and a supporting tick sheet, the children then worked in pairs to find the features. This helped to develop their confidence in analysing this style of writing.
Do Liquids Change Size?
Year 4 have been exploring liquids in Science this week. They discovered that even when liquids change their shape to fit different containers, they always take up the same amount of space (volume). The children tested this by pouring liquids into different containers and carefully observing what happened. This hands-on investigation helped them develop their scientific skills by making predictions, observing closely, and explaining their findings using scientific language.
Year 5 began their art learning by exploring how charcoal works, testing different marks, tones, and smudging techniques to see how light and pressure affect their drawings. They experimented freely at first, building confidence and control as they discovered how charcoal can create both soft shading and strong, bold lines. Once familiar with the material, the pupils moved on to drawing simple classroom objects, carefully observing shapes, shadows, and textures. This helped them develop their skills in using tone to show form and depth, which they then applied to their final pieces. The unit concluded with pupils using their charcoal techniques to create dark, gloomy settings, successfully using contrast and shading to produce atmospheric and expressive drawings. Well done to everyone!
Year 6 enjoyed an informative and interactive workshop led by the Transport for London (TfL) Junior Citizenship scheme focusing on safe and responsible travel.
The session helped the children learn how to stay safe when travelling independently and making positive choices when using public transport.
Year 6 have been learning about oracy and how it supports confident, respectful communication.
They explored the four types of oracy, learned our talk rules for class discussions and practised asking questions and explaining their thinking clearly during a class game.
We found out that developing oracy skills helps us to express our ideas clearly, listen to others and prepare for confident communication in secondary school and the future.
DIGITAL LEADERS: TECH SUPERHEROES!
At Vauxhall Primary School, our Digital Leaders are technology superheroes!
They help teachers and friends use computers, iPads, and online tools.
They share their tech powers to make learning fun and exciting.
They teach everyone how to stay safe and smart online.
Digital Leaders always use technology in a kind, safe, and responsible way.
They are positive role models, showing respect, responsibility, and creativity every time, they go online.
Digital Leaders to the rescue — saving the day with technology!
Pupils in Coding Club have been busy coding and designing a voting counting device as part of UNICEF’s “Do Your Bit” coding projects. They used their computing skills to create a program that collects and counts votes, helping them understand how technology can support fairness, decision-making, and real-world issues. The pupils showed great creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving throughout the project.
The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week's online safety focus is ''Roblox ". Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.

Times Table Triumphs!
Our Times Table Rock Stars have wowed us this week with their fantastic progress! A huge round of applause to our Most Valuable Players (MVPs), your children’s dedication and determination are truly shining through. Let’s keep supporting them as they practise, grow in confidence, and continue to rock those times tables!
Remember to encourage your child to practice every day for at least 5 minutes.
Whole School Target 95% 🎯
This week's punctuality award goes to 🥁🥁 ... Leopards (Year 4) 🥳
Our whole school attendance currently stands at 93%, but we're aiming for our target of 95% to ensure all our pupils can make the best possible progress. Parents have a legal responsibility to ensure their child attends school regularly, and every day in school truly counts.
We've also noticed an increase in late arrivals. Arriving on time matters – when children arrive late, they miss important learning at the start of the day and can feel unsettled. Please ensure your child is in class and ready to learn by 8:55am.
Support Available
If your child is struggling to attend due to illness, anxiety or any other reason, or if you're finding morning routines challenging, please do get in touch. We're here to work with you to remove any barriers and support your family.
