School uniform
A quick reminder about our school uniform standards, our children always look so smart, and we’d love to keep it that way!
Shoes and trainers should be black.
PE kit should be plain navy blue, with or without the school logo.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our pupils take pride in their appearance and represent our school so well.
Staying Safe Online
We would also like to remind families about the importance of keeping children safe online. Online risks can generally be grouped into four areas:
Content: Being exposed to illegal, inappropriate, or harmful material.
Contact: Harmful interactions with other users.
Conduct: Online behaviour that increases the likelihood of harm.
Commerce: Risks such as online scams, gambling, or hidden spending.
Please take some time to talk with your child about what they do online and the sites or apps they use. Staying engaged and aware helps keep them safe.
Most social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat have a minimum age requirement of 13 years old. These restrictions are in place to help protect children from potential online harms.
For more advice and practical guidance on supporting your child online, you may find the following websites useful:
If you have any concerns about online safety, please don’t hesitate to contact the school — we’re always here to help.
Our SEND department is looking for LEGO donations in good condition. LEGO is a fantastic resource for supporting creativity, problem-solving, and fine motor skills, and our pupils love using it!
If you have any unwanted LEGO sets or pieces at home, we’d be very grateful to give them a new home. We’ll check and sanitise all donations before use.
Thank you so much for your continued support, every brick helps!
Power for Good!
This year’s Anti-Bullying Week theme, Power for Good, encouraged our pupils to use their actions and words to make a positive difference. With help from our amazing Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, children took part in a range of activities, including creating friendship bracelets, taking part in art projects, and using a special “compliment box” in the playground. KS2 pupils joined a live lesson on standing up to bullying, and the whole school completed a five-day Kindness Challenge—spreading positivity and showing how we can all use our power for good!
This week in EYFS, we have been learning a new maths concept called ‘part part whole’. This is a visual model for teaching children how a number (the whole) is made up of smaller parts (the parts). It is a foundational concept for understanding addition and subtraction by showing that numbers can be partitioned and re-combined in different ways. This model is introduced with physical objects like counters.
As we have been reading Funnybones this week, our maths activities were very much linked to it. We linked the new concept by pointing to our body parts when singing head, shoulders, knees and toes. We also used a skeleton prop and some cubes to demonstrate the new skill.
Year 1 Cheetah class had a fantastic time learning all about the history and traditions of Bonfire Night. The children explored why we celebrate this special event and then used pastels and tissue paper to create their own stunning bonfire artwork.
In Literacy this week, the children have been reading I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen. After discovering that Rabbit had taken Bear’s hat, they wrote letters of advice to tell Rabbit what he should do next — encouraging him to be honest, say sorry, and make the right choice. They then posted their letters to Rabbit!
At the end of last term, Year 2 visited Durning Library in Kennington to explore how libraries work. After browsing the wide selection of books, the children were able to choose two books to bring back to school and enjoy as part of our reading programme.
Reading is such an important part of every child’s learning journey. It helps them build imagination, grow their vocabulary, and develop a lifelong love of stories and learning. Visiting the library is a great way for children to explore new interests and discover books that really spark their curiosity.
Families living in Lambeth can join their local library for free — it only takes a few minutes to sign up online (https://libraries.lambeth.gov.uk/protected/join-the-library) or pop into any Lambeth library to join in person. Once you’re a member, you can borrow books, audiobooks, and even e-books to enjoy together at home. It’s a wonderful way to make reading part of everyday life!
This week, Year 3 Eagle Class came back soaring through their maths lessons. They have started learning all about measurement in Maths. The children explored how to measure objects using metres (m) and centimetres (cm), learning to identify which unit is best for different items. They enjoyed lots of hands-on activities, using rulers and metre sticks to measure a variety of objects around the classroom and playground.
The class worked carefully to make sure they started from zero on their measuring tools and recorded their measurements accurately. It was a fun and interactive way to put their new skills into practice well done, Eagles!
Year 4 – Discovering The Iron Man
Year 4 launched their new English topic, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, with an exciting mystery! They discovered broken computer parts scattered around the classroom and became curious investigators, asking questions such as “Should we touch it?”, “Where did they come from?” and “How did they get here?” The activity sparked their imaginations and set the stage for exploring this classic story in the weeks ahead.
Year 5 have been working really hard to understand the new concept of negative numbers. We’ve explored how they appear in real-life situations such as money, elevation, and temperature, helping us see their importance beyond the classroom. The children have been practising bridging through zero and partitioning numbers with great focus and determination. Well done, Year 5, for your fantastic effort and positive attitude towards this new challenge!
Over the last two weeks, Year 6 have been exploring our class text, Windrush Child. The children realised that people can experience more than one feeling at once – such as fear and excitement or sadness and hope. They then wrote their own reflections on how Leonard might have felt and added them to our Working Wall to show the powerful range of emotions they uncovered.
In Design and Technology, the children carried out a survey of our playground to identify what works well and what could be improved. Using their observations, they began planning ideas for a redesigned playground that would be fun, safe and inviting for everyone. This real-life design challenge encouraged teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
Here’s some of the work that the children were doing in their Computing lessons last term.
Do Your :Bit
A MICRO:BIT digital challenge for the global goals
At Vauxhall Primary School, we believe every child can make a difference. Through the Do Your :Bit program, we combine creativity, coding, and compassion to inspire pupils to use technology for good.
Over a 6-week course, children learn to design and code using the BBC micro:bit, exploring real-world challenges linked to the United Nations Global Goals. By using computational thinking and teamwork, our pupils create innovative, tech-based solutions that promote positive change — developing the skills, confidence, and empathy needed to shape a better future for everyone.
As stated in the National Curriculum for Computing, “A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.” The Do Your :Bit program brings this vision to life, empowering our learners to become creative problem solvers and responsible global citizens.
Some of our pupils from year 5 & 6 have been taking part in a sustainability project at the The Oval Cricket ground.
The Green Wicket Project is an engaging, hands-on course delivered at The Ben Hollioake Learning Centre at The Kia Oval Cricket Ground, designed to introduce KS2 pupils from local primary schools to key sustainability concepts. Topics include climate change, the 6Rs (Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle), biodiversity, food miles, and energy conservation.
The course features a rich mix of experiments, debates, outdoor activities, digital media projects, and creative problem-solving, giving pupils the opportunity to explore real-world sustainability practices in a dynamic and inspiring setting.
Pupils also participate in weekly sports sessions, using physical activity to promote wellbeing, teamwork, and environmental awareness. These sessions emphasise the role of sports organisations like Surrey County Cricket Club in leading by example on environmental responsibility.
The project is supported by SSE Energy, whose backing helps strengthen the programme’s focus on sustainability and the importance of clean, responsible energy use in tackling climate challenges.
Vauxhall’s Winter Market will be on Tuesday 16th December 2025. We are kindly asking for your support to help towards the Winter Market. Each class will be running a stall, and we’d really appreciate any donations you can offer to support your child’s class stall.
We will also be running some whole school stalls including a tombola, raffle and food. Please could you donate any suitable unopened food and drink, food, toiletries, books, games, toys etc. If you would like to contribute to our food stall by bringing in hot or cold food, please speak to Miss Pilgrim or Ms Henry.
The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week is a online safety focus 'EA Sports FC 26'. Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.

Our Times Table Rock Stars have wowed us this week with their fantastic progress! A huge round of applause to our Most Valuable Players (MVPs), your children’s dedication and determination are truly shining through. Let’s keep supporting them as they practise, grow in confidence, and continue to rock those times tables!
Remember to encourage your child to practice every day for at least 5 minutes.
Let’s start the day right!
Arriving on time helps children start the day happy, settled, and ready to learn. Our school day begins at 8:50 AM, and the register closes at 9:20 AM.
If a child arrives more than 30 minutes late, this will be recorded as a ‘U’ code (an unauthorised absence).
We know mornings can sometimes be a rush, so if you’re finding it tricky to get in on time, please let us know, we’re always happy to help.
