Thank you for your continued support, the informal feedback we receive from you has been overwhelmingly positive, and it means a great deal to our whole team.
The children continue to thrive at Vauxhall Primary School. Each Friday, we celebrate their achievements during our achievement assemblies, recognising pupils who have demonstrated our school values. Many children are also celebrated individually or as groups during class time for their hard work and progress.
Our staff team also deserve recognition. Each week, they receive well-deserved 'Shout-Outs' in acknowledgement of their continued hard work and dedication to your children's learning and wellbeing.
Have a relaxing weekend, and we hope you enjoy this week's edition.

This week, our Caterpillars and Butterflies have been enjoying the story Harry and the Dinosaurs Go to School! We have been talking about starting school, making new friends and all the exciting things we can do in our classroom. The children have enjoyed sharing their own experiences, exploring the dinosaurs through play and discussing how Harry might have felt on his first day. We have also been practising important skills such as listening, taking turns, following routines and talking about our feelings. It has been lovely to see the children growing in confidence and settling into school life!
This week, the children explored drawing shells in the sketchbooks they created. They were encouraged to look closely and take their time, practising “slow looking” as they talked about what they could see while drawing. The children experimented with a range of materials, including handwriting pens, crayons, pencils and oil pastels, paying close attention to the shapes, patterns and details of the shells.
This week in their maths lessons Year 2 have been focusing on calculating within 20. To help support their learning the children used their whiteboards to demonstrate different strategies to help solve problems. Children used counters to help them when needed and they all worked extremely hard. Well done Year 2!
This week, Year 3 have been learning about scientific predictions. We talked about what a prediction is and looked at some simple science experiments.
The children then worked in pairs to predict whether an aeroplane made from card or paper would fly the furthest. They made their own aeroplanes, tested them and measured how far they travelled.
The children enjoyed comparing the results and explaining why they had made their predictions. They used what they already knew about materials, weight and how aeroplanes fly to help explain their ideas.
It was great to see the children having fun, testing their ideas and learning from the results!
It has been a busy and exciting three weeks in Literacy! We have been exploring Varmints by Helen Ward and Marc Craste, using the story and film to develop our reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
The children have been learning about the environment, plants and the life cycle of a plant, building a rich vocabulary along the way. They have worked collaboratively and independently, writing descriptions, letters, speeches and explanation texts.
A particular highlight has been preparing and performing speeches, with the children showing growing confidence in organising and sharing their ideas.
We have been so impressed by their creativity, teamwork and enthusiasm. What a fantastic start to the year!
Year 6 have been working hard on their new book, The Arrival, creating exciting and descriptive sentences about the mysterious city. The children have been confidently moving around the classroom to share their ideas with one another, showing fantastic teamwork and listening carefully to each other’s suggestions. We have been particularly impressed by the quality of their writing, with sentences including effective prepositions, ambitious adjectives, personification and exciting verbs to bring the city to life. It has been wonderful to see the children learning from one another and developing their ideas together.
Discover the UNICEF Earth Club
We’re excited to introduce families to the UNICEF Earth Club app. A fun way for children to learn about their rights, care for our planet and make a difference. With games, challenges and activities, children can explore the Rights of the Child and the UN Global Goals while developing their creativity and understanding of the world around them. We’re proud to support these important values in school and encourage families to explore the app together at home. Play, discover and take on the challenges .
Every small action counts!
Our Mental Health Support Team (MHST) hosted a wonderful Sip and Paint session for parents. It was a lovely opportunity for parents to take some time for themselves, get creative and connect with others in a relaxed and welcoming environment. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made the session such a success!
We held a wonderful Macmillan Coffee Morning this week! A huge thank you to all the parents and staff who baked and donated delicious cakes, and to everyone who came along and enjoyed them.
Thank you for your generosity and support. All your donations and efforts will help raise money for a fantastic cause. We really appreciate everyone who helped make the morning such a success!
The 'WakeUpWednesday' guides empower and equip parents, carers and educators with the confidence and practical skills to be able to have informed and age-appropriate conversations with children about online safety, mental health and well-being, and climate change.
Each week we will post a relevant guide to support our school community's knowledge and understanding of how to keep safe online and new things to be aware of.
This week's online safety focus is 'Discord'. Please click on the PDF to enlarge it.
