Profile of Dr. Sharaniya Vijitharan
Dr. Sharaniya Vijitharan is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Bio-science, Faculty of Applied Science, University of Vavuniya. She is a young, energetic, and independent researcher in the fields of forest carbon accounting, land use, and land cover changes, forest management, REDD+ policy evaluation, climate change, and sustainable development towards natural resources management.
Dr. Sharaniya publishes research papers in indexed journals and serves as a reviewer for reputed Scopus-indexed journals, including Heliyon (Elsevier), Carbon Management (Taylor & Francis), International Journal of Climate Change: Impacts and Responses, International Journal of Environmental Sustainability, and International Journal of Sustainability Policy and Practice. Besides publishing and reviewing journal activities, Dr. Sharaniya is an active member of scientific committees and a reviewer for national and international conferences. She is a visiting Lecturer at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, to teach the courses Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and Forestry and REDD+.
Dr. V. Sharaniya serves as an Expert Reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), contributing to the 2027 Methodology on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories by reviewing First Order Draft materials on Short-Lived Climate Forcers (SLCFs) inventory methodologies. She is also an Early Adopter and reviewer for the World Resources Institute (WRI) Natural Ecosystem Conversion Dataset. In addition, she has contributed as a reviewer for the GLOBE Virtual Science Symposium, an international scientific event organized by the GLOBE Program (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment), an international science and education initiative supported by organizations such as NASA, reflecting her active engagement in global scientific evaluation and knowledge dissemination.
Dr. Sharaniya is currently an Adjunct Faculty at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
