Aims and Objectives of establishing the Cultural Centre

Sri Lankan culture is a dynamic, challenging, and independent force based on the freedom of expression. Therefore, everyone is to have the opportunity to participate in cultural life and develop society in creativity, diversity, and artistic quality that are integral parts of arts and culture. Therefore, this will develop and promote the rich diversity and uniqueness of various arts of the Zone and upgrade and enrich the people’s consciousness about their cultural heritage. The main objectives of establishing Arts and Culture Centre are:

· To develop the students’ creative potential in culture

· To arrange cultural programs through international research and conferences, seminars, workshops, and training programmes

· To encourage understanding between different communities and cultures.

· To strengthen personal and collective identity in culture

· To inspire the development of interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, and competencies in culture

· To receive global assistance in developing students’ cultural potential

· To facilitate the publications through the Cultural Centre

· To share the advanced knowledge of culture through collaboration with Government, Non-Government, and International Organization

· To preserve cultural heritage of multicultural communities

· To create an archive to preserve the documents of communities and sharing to the next generation.

Main Functions and Responsibilities of the Centre

· Design and plan an annual arts and cultural activities and competitions to promote aesthetic skills and social solidarity.

· Steer the Arts and Cultural Centre at the Faculty level to organize the annual programmes effectively.

· Arrange seminars and workshops on the arts and culture having outside resources

· Organize and arrange staging cultural programmes with the participation of students of the university, inter-universities and social agencies from the society.

· Participation of the school students in the arts and cultural programme and competitions.

· Establish Cultural Museum for Documentation of culture, values, and identities.
