School start and end times at Chautauqua will the same as they have been for in-person school: 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. At McMurray and Vashon High School, the first class period of the day begins at 9 a.m., but an Instructional Support time beginning at 7:30 is set aside for independent work and occasional interaction with teachers. At both schools the school day ends at 3:00.
Math and Literacy blocks will contain small group work and teacher support as well as a whole group lesson. Whole group lesson length will vary based on the developmental age of the students.
Recess is independent time and not teacher-led. Movement and exercise are encouraged throughout the day.
Independent and Specialist time may include: Independent reading, Individual student check-ins, academic support groups, Specially Designed Instruction, family connections and 30 minute specialist (Spanish, Art, Library, Music, Social-Emotional) class.
Instruction Support and Flex Time (in green on the chart) is designed to allow students independent time to complete assignments and all teachers to work with individual and small groups of students to meet individualized instructional needs. Teachers will communicate with students and families when your student is scheduled to work with their teacher.
Office hours (Friday) are for any period.
Holidays are observed just as in previous school years, and are listed on the school calendar (Español).
Students are expected to attend classes unless their parent or guardian notifies the school office via email that they are sick or they have an alternate agreement with the school. Teachers will take attendance at the beginning of each class via Google Meet.
Students will be expected to check their school email, their Google Calendar, and their classes in Google Classroom to stay up to date with schoolwork and expectations.
The first day of school is Monday, August 31. Look for communications from the schools about how to participate on the first day of school. Students at McMurray and Vashon High can go to Google Classroom on their Chromebooks and find instructions per class there as the school year nears.
Parents can log into Skyward Family Access and look under "schedule."
