BOLT (“Building Our Legacy Together”) is a platform for sharing and showing the unique life stories, dreams, and talents of Skyview’s students, staff, and even community members. The entire event is coordinated each year by the students in Leadership class - this year, there are 17 talented juniors and seniors who took on the challenge.
From developing the concept and recruiting presenters, to fundraising for and promoting the event, they work tirelessly on each component of BOLT all year long. BOLT's goal is to use various formats, like speeches and anecdotes, original music, dance, and more, to bring the community together and inspire one another in a positive manner.
While BOLT is typically four distinct presentations held in our school auditorium, this year poses major challenges. However, the Leadership class is leaning into their class values (Humble, Accountable, Brave, Unified, Equitable, Ambitious); they realized that a school closure was a barrier they could still break through and that they should not give up. So, in the spirit of BOLT and "Breaking Barriers," BOLT will be presented in four pre-recorded collections that will be shared with the school and its community in May on a video streaming platform. Although not every original act can be adapted to individual videos from home (live bands, for example, cannot meet to record their piece), most of the event's content can be captured from home and shared with Leadership students for editing and stitching together.
This year’s theme, “Breaking Barriers," aims to create community through shared experiences. We selected this theme after our whole class sat down and talked about our main hopes for our 2,000+ student school. We wanted to help make everyone feel closer and eliminate the barriers that we let divide us. Our goal is that by focusing BOLT on uniting our students, our whole school community will be strengthened and brought together.
Our students, staff, and community presenters have the chance to share what they’re really all about: expect stories of overcoming real-life obstacles like family struggles, suicide, and depression, alongside celebrations of friendship, personal passions, and more. Viewers have the opportunity to connect with others in our school who may be more like them then they ever imagined.
