Welcome back, Royals! We hope you enjoyed a restful break and are ready for an exciting second semester. As we begin this next chapter of the school year, we look forward to continuing our partnership to support student growth, learning, and success. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community!
🕗 Importance of Attendance 🕓
Why Attendance Matters—Especially Before STAAR/TELPAS Testing
As we approach state testing, daily attendance is more important than ever. The days leading up to testing include essential instruction, review, and practice that help students feel confident and prepared. When students miss school, these learning opportunities cannot be fully replaced.
Research shows that missing just two days per month adds up to about 18 days a year, which equals nearly 10% of the school year. Over time, this loss of instruction can significantly impact academic performance and place students at risk of falling behind. Even a few absences can make it harder for students to keep up with learning and feel confident going into testing days.
We understand that absences sometimes can’t be avoided; however, we encourage families to prioritize attendance whenever possible, especially during this critical time. Every day counts, and your partnership helps ensure our students are present, prepared, and positioned for success.
🥳 Attendance Incentives 🥳

🎓 A December to Remember 🎓
VGECHS celebrated its first-ever National Honor Society inductees. These students have been selected to be part of this elite group of scholars based on their academic achievements and service to their community. We are excited to see what the future has in store for them.Â
Our 9th grade class visited South Texas College for their freshmen orientation. Students were given the opportunity to learn about the endless resources provided to them as dual credit college students. Help us cheer them on as they begin their college journey as 14 and 15-year-old students. What an incredible milestone!
