This Code of Conduct outlines expectations for all participants, volunteers, and staff of the Vancouver Music Organization (VMO). The VMO may update our Code of Conduct from time to time; any changes will be communicated to those impacted. Additionally, the standards set forth here apply to both in-person and online interactions.
Respect: We strive to create and maintain an environment where all people are treated with dignity and respect. We do not tolerate any form of harassment, bullying, intimidation, or discrimination between any of its participants, volunteers, and/or staff. All participants are expected to show respect to others, and to adhere to guidelines established by the VMO. Our organization strives to maintain an environment where everyone feels valued, seen, and heard.
Safety: Participants are expected to always prioritize the safety of themselves and others. This includes following all safety guidelines and avoiding any behavior that could put yourself or others in danger. Participants are expected to report any safety concerns immediately.
Responsibility: Participants are responsible for their own conduct and must take responsibility for their own actions.
Laws: Participants must abide by all applicable local, state and federal laws.
Please report any violations to the VMO President. The VMO prohibits any retaliation against any individual who makes a report in good faith or participates in an investigation. VMO will seek out information about all reported violations and address the situation accordingly. Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in action such as dismissal of a participant from an ensemble, cancellation of membership, or a lesser sanction, as deemed appropriate. Under VMO bylaws, the Board retains the authority to remove or revoke membership as a last resort for violations of this code.
Examples of violations include but are not limited to:
Discriminatory or hateful language, symbols, or gestures, including but not limited to racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, ageist, and religious intolerant remarks and/or iconography.
Discriminatory or inappropriate comments related to another’s body type, hairy-type, and/or physical ability.
Engaging in behavior that is threatening, harassing, disruptive, or violent in nature.
Irresponsible consumption or use of alcohol or other substances while at a VMO activity or event.
