Students in Mr. Murray's Introduction to Aviation course were hard at work designing, creating, and testing their own heavy lift rockets using a variety of everyday materials including fishing line, drinking cups, balloons, and paperclips.
The first year of the course provides the foundation for advanced exploration in the areas of flying and unmanned aircraft systems. Students will learn about engineering practices, problem solving, and the innovations and technological developments that have made today's aviation and aerospace industries possible. Students have the ability to enroll in the second-year course in the 2026-2027 school year to expand on the knowledge.
While the Introduction to Aviation course is not a CTE-certified program, it is paving the way for students to continue with a proposed CTE-approved drones program for the 2026-2027 school year and possibly a program for students to earn their private pilots license.
