Here's our first investigation for force!
Gravity a force that pulls things toward Earth. The force of gravity acts between all objects.
Friction force that resists motion between two bodies in contact. Friction slows things down and can cause them to come to a stop. Friction also creates heat. If you rub your hands together, they get warm because of friction.
When two forces are balanced, there is no movement. To have movement, there must be unbalanced forces.
Sir Issac Newton described three laws of motion.
1. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalance force.
2. Acceleration depends on the net force acting on the object and the mass of the object.
3. For every force, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Potential energy is stored energy. A roller coaster at the top of a hill has potential energy
Kinetic energy is energy of motion. A roller coaster moving down the hill has kinetic energy
This Study Jams video is a great review for force and motion!
