Brent Wood, Sanford Elementary Music Specialist

I am delighted to be back home teaching in Van Alstyne at Sanford Elementary! Before pursuing my degree in Music Education, I obtained a degree in design and worked in the commercial and residential design business for many years. My undying love and passion for music led me to a career change and I could not be happier to be a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in music education.

While at Tech I had the opportunity to serve as the director of children’s music at St. John’s United Methodist Church and as a teaching artist with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. I also assisted with Texas Tech’s men’s and women’s choral festivals, and directed the University Singers as a student apprentice. I then taught 2 years in Lubbock before returning to North Texas.

I can’t remember a time when music wasn’t a part of my life! I began singing in church choirs at an early age and later took up the trumpet and piano. Music has afforded me the opportunities to perform in many cities across the U.S. and abroad. I also performed 5 seasons with Dallas’ own Turtle Creek Chorale under the direction of Dr. Tim Seelig.

I am thrilled to continue my musical journey here at Sanford Elementary. I look forward to sharing my love and passion for music with the next generation of panthers!
