School counselors are here to support students and families in a variety of ways.
Academically-We help students with study skills, strategies, and organization.
Socially and Emotionally- We provide social and emotional learning, like getting along with others, understanding emotions, and coping with stress.
College and Career Readiness- We provide resources through CaliforniaColleges.edu for exploring colleges and careers.
Most importantly, we want ALL students to feel safe- physically and emotionally. We will always work with families and students to that end.
About Mrs. Janis
I am so excited to welcome you to March Middle School. I hope you all had a restful summer and everyone managed to stay safe and healthy. My Name is Mrs. Janis and I am one of the School Counselors here at March!
A little bit about me, I went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned my B.S. in Child Development, I have an M.S. in School Counseling from National University, and am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). I have been a school counselor for 14 years; I worked for 7 years in the Temecula Valley Unified School District and have been with Val Verde USD for the past 8 years.
I have been married for 23 years and have two wonderful boys, Cole (20), and Cooper (15). Our family wouldn’t be complete without our two dogs Cate and Crosby which are a mix of Alaskan Malamute, Jindo, and Chow.
My favorite things to do when I am not at work are cooking, working out, and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to getting to know and work with you all this coming school year.

Welcome Mavericks to the 2025-2026 School Year!
I am a proud March Middle School Maverick! This is my 26th year in the Val Verde Unified School District. I have also served as a high school Social Science Teacher, Instructional Coach, and High School Counselor in Val Verde. I am very excited to work with the March Middle School Community.
I am a proud aunt of two nieces and one nephew. I am also a dog mom to Ida Red and Willie Nelson. I also have a horse, chickens, and turkeys.
My hobbies include traveling, camping, swimming, and spending time at the beach!
I am passionate about my work and want you to know I am here to support you. Please reach out and I look forward to seeing you on campus!
