First semester of sophomore year I was placed in a Kindergarten classroom at Salk Elementary School in Merriville, IN. I visited this school three times throughout the semester. My experience in this classroom was fun and exciting, but also eye-opening. This classroom had a total of 14 students in it, one soon being removed from the classroom due to their recent autism diagnosis and progression. Michelle Frey, my cooperating teacher, has fewer kids in her classroom because she has a greater part of children with learning disabilities. I learned a lot from Michelle by seeing how she handles the students in her classroom and how well they all listen to her. These kindergarten students knew exactly what their teacher expected of them and only needed a small amount of redirection.
